The Carson High Culinary Arts program and Early Childhood Education programs competed at the Nevada State Conference for FCCLA (Family Career Community Leaders of America) at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno last week. Twenty-five students competed in a variety of events that showcased skills learned in their chosen pathway.

The Early Childhood Program competed in Career Investigation, Professional Presentation, Early Childhood Education and Focus on Children. The Culinary Arts Program competed in Baking and Pastry, Creative Garnish, Culinary Arts, Kitchen Crime Scene and Technical Pastry Design.

The following students placed first and earned gold medals: Mikala Gould, level 3 Creative Garnishes, Mabel Wacker, level 3 Technical Pastry Design, and Madison Vaccaro, level 2, technical Pastry Design. Notably, Ashlyn Wise placed third in the State in Baking and Pastry, level 3, and Dennis Dzwir placed fifth in the State for Culinary Arts, level 3.

The Nevada FCCLA State Leadership Conference (SLC) is the premier event for Nevada’s FCCLA members, advisers, alumni and FCCLA supporters. Nevada FCCLA members from across the state gathered for three days of incredible training, intense competition and inspiring, exciting entertainment in Reno. Top performers at the SLC advanced to the National Leadership Conference, which will be held in Orlando, Florida this July.
