The Carson City School District proudly joins districts across the nation in celebrating National School Social Work Week, recognizing the critical role school social workers play in supporting students, families and school communities.
Observed annually in March, National School Social Work Week is sponsored by the School Social Work Association of America and honors the professionals who help remove barriers to learning and ensure every student has the support needed to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
School social workers serve as a vital link between home, school and community. Through collaboration with educators, administrators and families, they provide:
- Individual and group counseling
- Crisis intervention and threat assessment support
- Attendance and engagement interventions
- Family outreach and resource coordination
- Support for students experiencing homelessness or foster care transitions
- Member within Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)

“Our school social workers are members of our student wellness and engagement teams,” said Christie Perkins, director of MTSS, Engagement, and Student Wellness. “They embody our commitment to the whole child by ensuring students feel safe, connected and supported every day.”
In alignment with the district’s MTSS framework, school social workers contribute to Tier 1 prevention efforts, targeted Tier 2 supports and intensive Tier 3 interventions. Their expertise strengthens positive school climate initiatives, restorative practices and equitable access to resources for all students.
Carson City School District encourages students, families and community members to join in thanking school social workers for their unwavering commitment to student success.
