Carson City roller derby skater Nick Posey has been selected to represent the United States as a member of USA Roller Sports Team USA at the World Skate Games taking place this October in Paraguay.

Posey received official confirmation on March 5 after competing in Team USA tryouts held in Waco, Texas in December and Mesa, Arizona earlier this year. The tryouts brought together top roller sports athletes from across the United States vying for a place on the national roster.

“I’m incredibly excited and grateful for the opportunity to represent my country in Paraguay,” Posey said. “I was honestly at a loss for words. You strive to excel at whatever sport you’re participating in, and to be selected to skate on an international level is an amazing opportunity.”

Posey has spent the past several years training and competing with the Carson Victory Rollers in Carson City, Nevada, building his skills through intense practices and national competition. He credits much of his success to the teammates and coaches who helped prepare him for opportunities at the highest levels of the sport.

“I want to thank all my teammates from the Carson Victory Rollers for practicing with me, and all my coaches for training me over these last four years,” Posey said. “Competing at nationals and training to skate at that level really helped improve my game and prepared me for this moment.”

The World Skate Games are among the largest international competitions for roller sports, bringing together athletes from around the globe. For Posey, the event will also mark his first trip outside the United States.

“I’ve never traveled abroad before, so I’m excited for that adventure too,” he said.

Posey also hopes his achievement will inspire others in the local community.

“I think this shows that people even from a small town like Carson City can excel at sports and earn opportunities to compete on a national or international level. I’m proud to represent Carson City and the United States in Paraguay.”
