A new Nevada-based nonprofit, Cutie P.A.W.S. (Providing Animal Wellness & Sanctuary), has officially launched to address the growing need for rescue, rehabilitation, and sanctuary care for cats across Northern Nevada.

Before introducing their mission, the founders of Cutie P.A.W.S. wish to acknowledge the longstanding presence of Carson City C.A.R.E.S. (Catmandu).

Catmandu has served this community for years and has helped countless cats find safety and homes. The experience and exposure gained during that chapter of local rescue work helped inform the founders’ vision for building additional capacity in the region.

Cutie P.A.W.S. is a fully independent nonprofit organization and is not affiliated with Catmandu or any other rescue. It operates under separate leadership, governance, and mission direction.

“Our region continues to face shelter overcrowding, complex medical cases, and limited sanctuary placement options,” said Kris Chavez, Co-Founder. “We created Cutie P.A.W.S. to expand resources, strengthen collaboration, and bring structured, sustainable infrastructure to lifesaving work.”

The organization’s focus areas include:

  • Rescue & Rehabilitation for high-need medical cases

  • Lifelong sanctuary care when necessary

  • Rural outreach and TNR collaboration

  • Whole-health integration alongside traditional veterinary care

  • Cross-rescue collaboration to strengthen the regional ecosystem

However, the organization currently lacks a permanent facility.

 

Cutie P.A.W.S. is actively seeking:

  • A building or property for its primary facility

  • Emergency medical funding

  • Sustainable operating support

  • Corporate and philanthropic partners


“We are ready to scale,” Chavez said. “What we need now is infrastructure and community investment.”
