Even with the sun trying to break free of the storm clouds, leftover snow showers and recent heavy snow will continue to cause travel impacts through the remainder of Wednesday before another system moves into Carson City and surrounding counties Thursday.
Slick roads and icy conditions continue to cause problems for motorists Wednesday morning from the valley floors to the Sierra and around Lake Tahoe. See NVRoads.com or call 5-1-1 for the latest travel conditions. Chains and snow tire are required over mountain passes. If you don’t need to travel today, it is advised to stay off the roads.

State offices in Carson City and throughout northern Nevada are on a two-hour delay today, while schools and colleges have chosen to close or on delay due to what has already fallen and the travel impacts on roads this storm has caused.

Carson City Public Works continues to dig out this morning, clearing local roadways as quickly as possible, as are NDOT plows with their efforts along I-580, US-50 East and West and US-395.
While the majority of today and tonight will offer a small window to dig out from all this snow, isolated snow showers with modest additional accumulations of up to 3 inches remain possible.

Meanwhile, another quick moving storm will bring additional snow accumulations and travel impacts mainly for the Sierra, western Nevada and northeast California on Thursday prompting a Winter Weather Advisory for Carson City and surrounding counties.
This storm is expected to produce snow accumulations of 6-12 inches along the Sierra with locally up to 18″ along the crest in the Tahoe Basin. Snow accumulations of up to 3 inches on valley floors along the Sierra Front with up to 6 inches for foothills above 5000 feet.
After a break in storm activity Friday through early Sunday, more storms are likely to return late Sunday and next week.
Check back for updates.
