Joaquin Webb is founder and Executive Director of Reconnect 180.

Rotarians will learn how a local organization is helping people during the reentry process after incarceration Joaquin Webb, Founder and Executive Director of Reconnect 180, will be the featured speaker at the Rotary Club of Carson City meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at noon, in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom. The public is invited to attend.

Webb brings first-hand experience to the organization; having spent 20 years in prison himself. He will share Reconnect 180’s innovative 90/90 program, which begins 90 days prior to release and continues for 90 days after release.

Reconnect 180 is committed to reducing recidivism by addressing the root challenges of reentry, housing, employment, life skills, and long-term support.

“The program starts before release with Weekly life-skills, financial literacy, communication, time management, decision-making, conflict resolution, and reentry planning classes” Webb explains. “We provide help and resources for participants to secure employment after release.”

The program also helps with housing, transportation, medical issues and other needs during the first 3 months of reentry. “Housing is a huge obstacle for those reentering society, Finding safe, affordable housing is often the #1 barrier, especially with rental restrictions, stigma, and limited supportive housing options.”

Webb knows how important this support in prevent reoffending. “When people have housing, work, and support, they’re less likely to reoffend, and that means fewer victims and less strain on law enforcement and courts.”

The Brewery Arts Center is located at 449 West King Street in Carson City. Anyone interested in attending the meeting should email carsoncitynvrotary@gmail.com.
