Every month, the Park Rangers offer various Ranger-Led programs that include educational opportunities, historical fun, and exciting adventures. All programs are offered for free and take place in one of the many Carson City parks and open space areas.

Online Registration is often required so Park Rangers have a proper head count. All programs are subject to cancellation due to Park Ranger availability; registered participants will be notified. You can find more information about each program by going here.

Park Ranger Trivia

Test your trivia knowledge with the Carson City Park Rangers! Compete against each other in a 20-question game of trivia. Topics will range from Nevada history, Carson City historical figures, wildlife, Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space and more! Prizes will be offered to first and second place winners.

Read with a Ranger

Join the Carson City Park Rangers at the Carson City Library for Read with a Park Ranger, happening every second Friday from 10:30am-11:30am. This free event is for kids of all ages! This month we will be reading and learning all about skunks!

The Great Basin Hike

Ever wonder what it would be like to live in Carson City thousands of years ago? Carson City is located in the Great Basin and throughout time this area has experienced a lot of change, from the water to the animals, this land would look completely unrecognizable to us 15,000 years ago.  Join a Park Ranger at the Odyssey Trail for a hike all about the history of the Great Basin and learn how this area has changed throughout time.

The hike is considered “more difficult” under the IMBA Trail Rating System. Expect moderate terrain with sandy sections and rocky obstacles for about 2 miles. Be sure to bring closed toed shoes, plenty of water and excitement for the Great Basin.
