The December planning meeting was filled with residents both for and against the project.
The December planning meeting was filled with residents both for and against the project.

In late December, a group of residents filed an appeal of the Carson City Planning Commission’s approval awarding a Special Use Permit to Carson Valley Meats for a proposed USDA meat processing facility on Highway 50.

The appeal is the latest activity on Carson Valley Meats’ proposed facility after it was originally approved in October by a 4-1 vote. The same group appealed the decision at that time, but the approval first had to be vacated due to a noticing issue at the city level and brought back before the commissioners for a re-vote.

The proposal was heard for a second time on Dec. 15, during which commissioners voted 5-1 to approve the facility.

The appeal is slated to be heard by the Carson City Board of Supervisors on Feb. 3 at 5 p.m.
