Carson City staff and members of the Planning Commission will host community outreach meetings to obtain community input regarding short-term rentals. The focus of the meeting will be to determine what standards (if any) should be applied to short-term rentals. There will be two meetings:
· Wednesday, Jan. 21, from 10 a.m. to noon
· Thursday, Jan. 22, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Both meetings will be at the Carson City Library, 900 N. Roop St., Carson City.
Short-term rentals refer to the rental of a home for a time period of less than 28 days. Currently, a short-term rental use may establish where hotels are allowed to locate.
The Board of Supervisors is considering specifically addressing short-term rentals in the zoning code, including establishing standards. Neighboring communities have adopted standards for short-term rentals, including parking standards and the designation of a local representative who can respond to the City’s concerns within 30 minutes.
“The upcoming meetings will be an opportunity for the community to advise as to what standards would be appropriate in Carson City,” according to Hope Sullivan, Director of Community and Economic Development.
Residents and businesses who aren’t available to attend the meeting can provide written input at planning@carsoncity.gov.
“The City looks forward to collaborating with the community in addressing this land use,” said Sullivan.
