A 31-year-old Gardnerville man and a 42-year-old Carson City woman were arrested drug crimes following a traffic stop on S. Carson Street.
According to the report, Dustin Wayne Robertson and Teresa Orlando were arrested just after 3 a.m. after a patrol deputy noticed a vehicle driving southbound that had no light illuminating the license plate.
Deputies stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver, Robertson, who could not provide registration or proof of insurance, but dispatch advised they were both up to date.
His driver’s license was registered in another state, and deputies asked how long he had lived in Gardnerville for, to which he responded six months. Deputies asked why he hadn’t updated his license and he said he had not gone to the DMV yet. Deputies cited him for being a “resident with a non-Nevada driver’s license,” a misdemeanor.
Deputies stated they saw a “white powdery substance” on the dashboard and requested a K9 to respond.
Deputies asked the passenger, later identified as Orlando, for her license and she stated she did not have one, and gave deputies a false name.
While deputies were writing Robertson a citation for driving without a light above the license plate and for not having an updated license, a K9 deputy arrived on scene and conducted an open-air sniff and gave a positive alert.
Deputies searched the vehicle and located a baggie containing a white crystallin substance in the glove box along with a VISA card with a name not belonging to either Orlando or Robertson.
Deputies located small plastic baggies inside of her purse, which deputies stated are indicative of sales.
Deputies asked who the drugs belonged to, and neither admitted to ownership. Deputies located 1.4 grams of cannabis on Orlando’s person along with a large butane torch.
Deputies took both into custody. At the jail, Orlando admitted to using a fake name to avoid a warrant for her arrest. Deputies also located one pill inside a pocket of Orlando’s purse which was identified as amphetamine and dextroamphetamine.
