In celebration of International Creativity Month, the Leisure Hour Club is hosting award-winning author and lecturer Theresa Danna for its monthly dinner meeting on Thursday, Jan. 22. Leisure Hour Club member Danna will present “Art for All: The Louis Prang Story,” an exploration into the life of the visionary who revolutionized art accessibility in America.
While Louis Prang is best known as the “Father of the American Christmas Card,” his influence extends far beyond holiday greetings. As a 19th-century color lithographer, Prang was instrumental in introducing art education to public schools and developing the standardized color wheel used by artists today. To bring the presentation to life, guests will have the opportunity to engage their own creativity using Prang-branded crayons and coloring sheets provided by the speaker.

Prang lived in Carson City for a time, with his historic home on West Robinson Street, which is recognized as a stop along the Kit Carson Trail.
Theresa Danna is a Carson City resident with decades of experience conducting creativity workshops. She holds a Master’s degree in Professional Writing from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Rowan University. Her diverse background includes work as an artist’s model in Los Angeles during the late 1980s, which inspired her published guide on the profession.

The Leisure Hour Club dinner meeting will be held on Thursday, Jan. 22. Reservations are required by 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15. To reserve a spot, please call 775.302.8820 or email lhcreservations@gmail.com. New members are welcome to join the club. Annual membership dues are $25.
Established in 1896, the Leisure Hour Club is Carson City’s oldest continuous social organization. Dedicated to promoting knowledge in science, music, literature, and current issues, the club operates under the motto, “Let knowledge grow from more and more,” inspired by Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem, In Memoriam.
