Quad-County COVID-19 Wednesday briefing: 19 of 55 new cases from Carson City prison

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020 that there are 55 new cases and 40 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. Nineteen of these additional 55 new cases are from the Warm Springs Correctional Facility in Carson City. This brings the total number of cases to 2,793, with 2,048 recoveries and 27 deaths; 718 cases remain active.

Carson City, Quad area COVID-19 Saturday briefing: 25 new cases, 18 recoveries

Carson City Health and Human Services reported Saturday that there are 25 new cases and 18 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 2,269, with 1,922 recoveries and 27 deaths; 320 cases remain active.

More than 80 percent of inmates at Carson City prison test positive for COVID-19

Prison officials say 81 percent of the inmates at Warm Springs Correctional Center in Carson City have tested positive for COVID-19, marking the worst outbreak to date in the state’s prison system.

Governor Sisolak announces positive COVID-19 test result

As part of a regular testing protocol, Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak underwent routine COVID-19 testing on Friday, November 13 in Carson City. A rapid test provided a positive result. The Governor also received a diagnostic PCR test and those results are pending at this time.

At this time, the Governor is not experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms. Earlier this week, the Governor expressed feeling fatigue, however he attributed this to his demanding schedule. No other symptoms were experienced.

Possible structure fire at Gold Dust West hotel reported Friday afternoon

DETR: Pandemic Unemployment Assistance claims fall after spike in the last two weeks; Regular claims edge down

For the week ending November 7, initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 7,556, down 602 claims, or 7.4 percent, compared to last week’s total of 8,158 claims, according to finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR). Through the week ending November 7, there have been 752,795 initial claims filed in 2020, 731,143 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

Gusty conditions prompt high wind warning for Carson City, Lake Tahoe areas beginning Friday
