Carson City, Quad area COVID-19 Wednesday briefing: 23 new cases, 22 recoveries

Carson City Health and Human Services reports Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2020 that there are 23 new cases and 22 additional recoveries in the Quad-County Region. This brings the total number of cases to 1,539, with 1,359 recoveries and 19 deaths; 161 cases remain active.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting 13 new cases and 10 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region on Monday, Oct. 12, 2020. This brings the total number of cases to 1,493, with 1,316 recoveries and 17 deaths, 160 cases remain active.

COVID testing Tuesday in Yerington following high number of positive tests at assisted living facility

Lyon County, City of Yerington, Carson City Health and Human Services and the Quad County Health Care Coalition will hold a COVID testing operation on Tuesday, Oct. 13 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.. The testing will be at the new City Hall (Old National Guard Building) located on the corner of Main Street and East Goldfield Avenue.

High Volume of Positive Covid-19 reported at assisted living facility in Yerington

Lyon County officials have been notified that an assisted living facility, Mason Valley Residence, in Yerington had a high number of positive tests for COVID-19.

It is reported that 34 out of 53 tests results were positive.

Two were arrested Tuesday for drug charges following a search warrant at a Sneddon Way residence, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team deputy report.

Dayton Library to host 3rd annual Trunk-or-Treat

The Dayton Library will be hosting their 3rd annual trunk-or-treat on Wednesday October 28th, 2020 from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM. This year's event will be a contact-less drive-thru. We are still in need of volunteers to decorate their cars and pass out candy. We are also accepting donations of candy through October 23rd. Dayton native Suzanna Stankute on verge of earning prominent Eagle Scout rank

Dayton native and Life Scout Suzanna Stankute is making strides with Boy Scouts of America.

Stankute, 14, is one of the only girls in her council on the verge of earning her Eagle Scout rank. The Eagle Scout rank is the highest achievement attainable in the Scouts BSA program. Members who earn this rank must go through a lengthy review process and complete an Eagle Scout project.

Sierra Nevada Realtors give time, donations back to rural communities

Earlier this month, members of Sierra Nevada Realtors spent time improving their communities all throughout the region. The annual Realtors Give Back event was special this year because it also included areas outside of Carson City. Members participated in community service as a group in Dayton and gave a generous monetary donation to the Fallon Youth Club and to the Boys and Girls Club of Carson City.

Western Nevada College recognizes 93 students on summer dean’s list

Western Nevada College is proud to announce that 93 students have qualified for the 2020 Summer Dean’s List.
To earn this recognition during the summer session, students attained a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and completed six units of classes or more.

Central Lyon Fire responds to brush fires in Dayton area

UPDATE 4:24PM: Both fires have been knocked down, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center.

UPDATE 2:42PM: The fire on Como Mountain is around 1/10th of an acre in size with a slow rate of spread, according to Central Lyon County Fire. Firefighting efforts have been turned over to the Nevada Division of Forestry and the Bureau of Land Management.

Central Lyon Fire crews responded Sunday afternoon to brush fires in the Dayton area and one possible in Stagecoach. One fire near the "D" hill behind Dayton High School was reportedly knocked down just after 2 p.m. and firefighters are continuing to work on a fire located on Como Mountain.

Dense smoke advisory goes up for Reno, Carson City and Carson Valley due to Loyalton Fire

UPDATE 4:50PM: A Dense Smoke Advisory issued by the National Weather Service for the greater Reno, Sparks, Virginia City and Carson Valley areas has been extended until 9 a.m. Monday morning. As of late Sunday afternoon, drift smoke was evident in Washoe Valley, Carson City as well as into Silver Springs and Dayton.

The National Weather Service in Reno on Sunday issued a Dense Smoke Advisory for the valley areas of Reno into Carson City and Carson Valley due to the Loyalton Fire burning in the Tahoe National Forest in California.

Carson City deputies make drug, warrant arrests

A 36-year-old Carson City woman was arrested in the 2500 block of Kit Sierra for parole and probation violation, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of paraphernalia.

According to the report, Lindsie Newman was arrested by Special Enforcement Team deputies after they learned that Newman, a parolee absconder, was staying at a residence on Kit Sierra Way.

Roper’s Heating and Air Conditioning donates over 20 new box fans to Carson City seniors through Fan Drive

Roper’s Heating and Air Conditioning delivered more than 20 brand-new box fans for Carson City seniors during the annual 2020 KOLO Cares Fan Drive.

This is the second year the Carson City Senior Center has participated in the drive, distributing fans to seniors who either do not have air conditioning or who may not be able to afford to run it.
