Students win big at Northern Nevada FIRST TECH Challenge Robotics Championship
The FIRST NV organization, organized the Second Annual Northern Nevada FIRST TECH Challenge was held Saturday at Carson High School in Carson City. High school teams from Nevada, California, Oregon, and Utah competed in a full day robotics competition for two seeds to the World Festival Robotics Competition to be held in April.
Working with mentors, teams of up to 10, design, build, and program robots to strategically maneuver game elements in a 12' X 12' game field. Randomly paired team alliances collaborate and combine the strengths of their robots to score points. Other judged awards recognize teams for design, innovation, community education and inspiration.
The FTC competition is the culiminating event for the students who worked since September 2012 to develop skill in building a robust design. Fun and intense, the FIRST TECH Challenge competition brought out the best in all the teams as they tuned and repaired robots and celebrated their match wins. Nevada had a strong showing in capturing several top awards.
