Content Policies

At Carson Now, we believe that everyone is entitled to freedom of speech. We also believe people have the right to carry on discussions without undo disruptions from those who seek attention, engage in personal attacks, and otherwise poison the atmosphere for productive conversation. We will try to strike a balance when these principles come into conflict, but we reserve the right to remove any content that we feel is inappropriate, including content that is not relevant to the Carson City area and our readers.

Comments from registered users are posted immediately. Users who are not registered can leave comments, which will be screened by an editor before they are posted.

Because this is a site open to all ages, submitted content is subject to a profanity filter that strips out profanity and replaces it with ****. We feel this is the best way to handle profanity, as most people will be able to figure out the real words behind the ****, without offending others.

The Front Page

To shield users from the river of un-screened content that flows into the site, we have provided helpful tabs on the front page to organize this content.

The default tab is Top Picks, which contains stories promoted there by staff and paid members of the site. The Latest News tab contains everything that comes into the site. The Buzz Worthy tab ranks content by how many people are reading or commenting on different stories, to show what pieces are getting the most buzz.

You can also organize content by using the Newsroom menu at the top, to view news by categories such as News, Sports and Opinion.

Most stories also have topics attached to them. These are either added by the content author, or contain words and phrases listed among the site's Topics, which are added automatically.

Day Williams, Attorney at Law

Day Williams grew up in Reno, Nevada. He has lived in Carson City, Nevada since 1991. In 1992, he served as a clerk at the Nevada Supreme Court. In 1993, he hung out his shingle as a solo practitioner. He was a driving force in the first citizen-initiated grand jury in Carson City’s history.
