UPDATE 6PM: Firefighters were able to knock down the fire and are now in mop-up stage. No word yet on the cause, but recent fires at the landfill have been due to combustible materials and batteries.

Carson City Fire Department was called early Sunday evening to a fire at the Carson City landfill off of Highway 50 East and Flint Road.

At around 5:15 p.m. Carson City dispatch reported calls of a fire at the landfill. A Carson City Fire Department battalion chief on scene reports a small fire burning, around a 20 foot by 40 foot mulch pile with little rate of spread. The arriving firefighting and water tender crews are sufficient for now, according to the battalion chief.

We will update as information becomes available.
