The Lyon County Sheriff's Office is looking for a pair involved in a vehicle theft Sunday in Smith Valley, which prompted authorities to briefly ask residents to shelter in place after the suspects fled on foot.

The weather will transition to a more active pattern with periods of mountain snow, valley rain, and gusty winds later Friday through Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service. A second colder system will be on its heels for early Monday and will provide chances for another round of snow.

UPDATE: Heading into the Christmas holiday weekend, the weather pattern for the Carson City region is expected to change beginning Christmas Day with periods of rain, snow and gusty winds into early next week, according to the National Weather Service.

Carson City-based DeBug Computer faced a Christmas challenge. Every year, the company hosts a Photos with Santa event with proceeds going to a local non-profit. The DeBug team huddled with Santa to discuss how to reach the children safely during the coronavirus pandemic. They decided to ask children, with their parents’ consent and supervision, to email a letter to Santa@debugcomputer.net.

This time of year I always think about Cappy. In charge of Ski Incline in the early days, Cappy Cook was a hail-fellow-well-met, on and off the slopes. Carson City Fire Department put into service Ladder 50 at 0900 this morning with the traditional push-in ceremony at Station 52. Ladder 50 is a tiller driven truck with an aerial ladder that extends to 107 feet. For over 10 years the department struggled with multistory structure fires without the use of a ladder truck, a very critical element of response, a need that until today would only be fulfilled with mutual aid assistance from neighboring counties.

Distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine is underway within the state of Nevada, including our local communities in the north. Those who are first up to receive the vaccine include health care personnel and long term care facilities as a part of the first phase of Tier 1 distribution.

The first batch of initial COVID-19 vaccines has reached Carson City, and was received by Carson Tahoe Health Tuesday morning.
