An Intentional Community with and by the Carson City Sheriff's Office Christmas Tree
In the spirit of Christmas, the presentation of a sparkling, ornate tree as Christmas approaches, delights all eyes, young and old. While viewing some various artistic trees displayed on social media, we see displays of creative inspiration as well as oddities.
This particular tree is a priceless example of giving comfort and is located inside the entrance of our Carson City Sheriff's office. What is outstanding isn't the end result of holiday cheer that is captivating but it is the initial intention — to provide. We may find at the onset, the idea is doing more than “protect & serve,” just as the gloves, hats and other warm fuzziness protect and serve the beneficiary, but after all, warm fuzz-iness is comforting as well.
What a wonderful feeling we gift upon ourselves when our intention is to provide warmth and impart comfort to others.
Once upon a time, a young struggling widow, (without welfare) was feeding 6 young children (and all their friends) so it was impossibly impractical for that family to be part of the commercial calendar. Once upon a time, years and years ago she began a family tradition by established a similar ornamented tree as their tradition. Being environmentalists they had a small, live tree saved from Earth Day.
By collectively wrapping small, heartfelt items beautifully, each child placed items upon branches, intentionally offering a small gift to anyone who came into their warm home as well as wrapped Milk Bones carefully tied with shining ribbons too.
Additionally, giving gifts of themselves included reading to the Elderly or just sitting lovingly, listening to them.
Those kids gave of themselves, developing character, which remains with them.
“Raise a child up in the way they go (to hopefully become a staid CCSO Deputy), they will not depart from integrity.”
Also these kids went through the “volunteer” stage, the “bum” stage and the “contributing member of society” stage so don't give in, up or out. Seeing this tree in all of it's spectral glory is the delight of all but to share with others, to be our Holiday 2019 example for a community rich in service, there isn't a more priceless gift.
Thank you Carson City Sheriff's Office for all you do.
