Carson City arrests: Man booked for multiple driving offenses
A 36-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday morning for multiple misdemeanor driving offenses including failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.
At 2:16 a.m. a Carson City Sheriff's Office sergeant was patrolling the area of Silver Oak Drive and Carson Street when he observed a white Jeep Cherokee turn onto Silver Oak Drive and fail to maintain the travel lane. The Jeep "cut the corner" and traveled into the turn lane for southbound traffic, according to the booking report.
The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, activating his overhead emergency lights. The vehicle turned into an apartment complex at College Parkway. Dispatch advised the registration on the vehicle was suspended through DMV.
The driver continued driving at a slow rate of speed in the apartment complex. The driver looked back into the sideview mirror and lifted his thumb up. The sergeant used his PA system and ordered the driver to stop. The driver again showed his left thumb but didn't stop the vehicle, the report states.
The vehicle then stopped and the driver attempted to back into a parking stall. The officer sounded the siren and moved his patrol vehicle up, ordering the driver to turn off the engine. The driver complied, the arrest report states.
The sergeant made contact with the driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle. He told the officer he saw him but his vehicle was almost out of gas and that was why he didn't stop. He also advised he had recently purchased the vehicle and he had not changed the registration or insurance for the vehicle, according to the report.
DMV advised the registration was canceled in August, 2022. The man was checked for warrants where the CCSO sergeant learned the driver had an arrest warrant issued through Douglas County courts for a traffic offense. The warrant was limited to Douglas County only. DMV also confirmed the man had a revoked license for failure to appear. He was taken into custody.
During vehicle inventory, the officer located an open bottle of vodka with a small amount inside. The man was booked for the following alleged misdemeanor offenses: failure to maintain a travel lane, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, driving on a revoked license, suspended registration and open container.
