Carson City student art exhibits, plus the 15 annual Dia De Los Muertos event

The Nevada State Museum will host a Day of the Dead Celebration this weekend from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6. As part of the event and celebration, Art students form Carson High School, Pioneer Academy and parents from Empire Elementary School will exhibit Dia De Los Muertos altars.
Additionally, CHS Ceramics 1 students will have their Calavera masks on display at Western Nevada College from through Nov. 22 in the Bristlecone building.
The art pieces created for the event were designed to remember and honor loved ones who have passed. Traditionally colorful and decorative, the altars offer favorite foods, drinks or special items that may have belonged to the deceased to help the returning spirit relive memories. The art pieces may also represent a general celebration of ancestors past, celebrities or beloved pets.
This event is open and free to the public and includes sugar skull crafts, folklore dancers and food trucks.
