Carson City arrests: Man jailed for suspected 3rd degree arson, seen lighting fires in Douglas

A 40-year-old man was arrested Thursday for suspicion of third degree attempted arson, a gross misdemeanor offense, after allegedly attempting to light fires in neighboring Douglas County, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

According to the report, deputies were called Thursday evening at around 5:30 p.m. to the area of Clear Creek Road and Vista Grand Boulevard. Dispatch advised a male wearing dark clothing and a backpack had lit several fires in neighboring Douglas County and was seen walking east on Clear Creek Road across from Costco.

Deputies located the man in the northeast corner of the Bodines casino parking lot after a reporting party pointed to the suspect. A deputy observed an open can of white gas in the male's hands that appeared to be pointed toward the ground. The man was standing near a bush and a parked vehicle, according to the booking report.

A deputy exited his patrol vehicle and drew his firearm, asking for the man to stop and put his hands in the air. The man immediately dropped the can of white gas and placed his hands in the air. The man complied with officer and was detained. Deputies asked the man what his name was but he refused to speak, the report states.

Douglas deputies arrived and met with CCSO deputies, and learned the man was allegedly using the white gas to set several bushes on fire just across the Douglas County line. A reporting party followed the suspect as he walked to Bodines in Carson City and observed him until he was detained. The RP identified the man as the arsonist, the report states.

Based on the facts provided by the reporting party, and the CCSO deputy observing the suspect with an open can of white gas in his hand, believing he was about to set fire by lighting either the bush or nearby vehicle, the man was placed under arrest for conspiracy to commit third degree arson, a gross misdemeanor offense.

While searching the man's backpack officers located a medical card with the man's name on it. He was from Shasta County, Calif. He was additionally charged with obstruction for allegedly providing a false name. He was booked into Carson City jail on the charges. Bail: $3,637.

In other arrests:

— A 61-year-old Dayton man was arrested Oct. 23, 10:21 p.m. for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI. According to the booking report, deputies were dispatched to the 2100 block of East William Street in reference to a report of an intoxicated driver who had pulled into a casino parking lot.

Deputies arrived on scene and located the suspect driver. Officers investigated the matter further. The suspect agreed to submit to a standardized field sobriety test and he showed signs of impairment on the tests, according to the booking report. The man provided a preliminary breath test of .259 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. At jail he submitted to an evidentiary blood draw. Bail: $1,137.

— A 27-year-old Carson City man was arrested for a warrant alleging violation of a suspended sentence. No bail hold in lieu of a hearing.
