Carson City School Board to hear class return report, bond resolution and more Tuesday
The next Carson City School Board meeting will be held Tuesday, Oct. 27 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Among the items for discussion are a report on return to school measures, a possible bond resolution, activities and summer projects.
Due to COVID-19, Carson City meetings will be held at the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.
The meeting will begin with a closed session per NRS 288.220 to discuss Labor Relations with the District’s Management Representatives.
The meeting will reconvene to a public session at 7 p.m.
The Superintendent’s Report includes an update on Taskforce Initiative for Educator Safety and Screening (TIES), an update on Return to School for Pre-K through 2nd Grade Students, and various announcements.
There will be reports on the activities of both Carson High School and Pioneer High School, as well as a Nevada Association of School Boards (NASB) update.
Public Comment – Comments will be accepted in person, through telephonic participation or through virtual participation via email; publiccomment@carson.k12.nv.us. Comments may be made by members of the public on any matter within the authority of this Board. Please note that Public Comment will be taken on items marked “for possible action” before action is taken on such items, and members of the public are encouraged to comment on such items at the time they are being considered. Although members of the Board may respond to questions and discuss issues raised during Public Comment, no action may be taken on such a matter until the matter is placed on an agenda for action at a meeting of the Board. In making Public Comment, speakers are asked to identify themselves for the record. Speakers are further asked to refrain from speaking over each other if participating by telephone. Speakers are asked to limit their comments to no more than three (3) minutes, whether in writing or oral, and to not simply repeat comments made by others.
A discussion and possible action will be held regarding the approval of recommendations of the Benefits Committee regarding group health insurance plan designs and renewal of coverage for the calendar year through Dec. 2021.
A discussion and possible action will be held regarding a resolution designated as the “2020 School Bond Resolution” declaring the necessity of incurring a bonded indebtedness on behalf of the Carson City School District for the purpose of acquiring, constructing, improving and equipping school facilities through the prepayment of the installment purchase agreement, by and between the district and Bank of America Public Capital Corp, dated as Feb. 8, 2017. This authorizes the issuance of the Carson City School District, Nevada, General Obligation School Bonds, series 2020, in the aggregate principal amount not to exceed $5.5 million.
A presentation will be held regarding the WIDA Access Testing for English Language Learners in the Carson City School District for the 2019-2020 school year.
An information update will be held on capital and summer projects completed in the district during the 2019-2020 year.
A discussion and possible action will be held on whether or not to cancel the Dec. 22 school board meeting.
