Looking for work or a career change? Job fair happening today at Adams Hub in Carson City

Are you looking to change industries, find your dream job, or simply see what is out there? Look no further than the Back to Work Job Fair happening today, Thursday, at Adams Hub in Carson City.

More than 20 different companies will be represented in a range of industries including healthcare, manufacturing, mining, technology, professional services, restaurants, construction and many more, ranging in everything from entry level positions to managerial.

There's also career counselors and job coach specialists available for job-seekers to connect with who can offer advice on resume writing and interviewing skills, as well as providing professional skills assessments and job placement support.

The job fair is from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Adams Hub, located at 111 W. Proctor Street in Carson City.

“It’s not your typical job fair because we will help job seekers identify their skills and employable assets,” said Elaine Spencer, director of the Adams Hub. “Experienced and non-experienced should apply because there may be opportunities for something they haven’t considered.”

Job-seekers should be prepared for on-site interviews, and are encouraged to bring multiple copies of their resume in case they find the perfect opportunity to apply.

Spencer said the Adams Hub provided the facility to local businesses to help them find and recruit employees because the organization’s purpose is to enhance the local economy, and the number one issue found while speaking with local business owners is the lack of employees.

“We felt this was the best way we could help our local economy and business owners at this time,” Spencer said. “We are welcoming employers in all industries and would love to have them join us or send us their open positions to post on our jobs board — both in the Adams Hub and online.”

Employers at the Adams Hub Back to Work Job Fair will be hiring for entry, mid- and senior levels, with opportunities at every level, and represent Carson City and regional companies including Minden and Gardnerville.

JOIN will be on site to host a resume workshop for those needing to create or update a resume. Participants will leave with hard copies and a thumb.

JOIN will also have a booth for more information about their programs for both employers and those looking to enhance their skills.

The Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team will continue prescribed fire operations this week in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Conditions and weather permitting, California State Parks, Nevada Division of Forestry, North Lake Tahoe, and Tahoe Douglas fire protection districts will be burning piles in several locations around Lake Tahoe.

My neighbor Patrick Mobley has an open house once a year to display his model railroad layout. The announcement on Facebook says the display is titled "Great Basin and Sierra." It models the high Nevada desert, Sierra and the California foothill trains. Here are some photos taken Sunday morning.

More good news coming out of Carson City. The Carson High School Blue Thunder Marching Band won first place in the 2022 Sierra Band Crusade with a score of 78.3, making them the Northern Nevada AA State Champions! The competition was held at the University of Nevada, Reno on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022. The Carson City marching band was also recognized with the award for outstanding music.

A 29-year-old Carson City man and a 24-year-old Carson City woman were arrested following an incident involving graffiti that led to the deployment of pepper balls and a taser.

The Nevada State Museum presented a free Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, event in collaboration with Western Nevada College and Visit Carson City on Nov. 5, from 10 a.m. till 3 p.m.

The event celebrated a traditional Mexican holiday that pays tribute to the lives of loved ones who have passed on. It was filled with delightful crafts, traditional music, folk dancing and a food truck with plenty of options to choose from.

Congratulations to the Carson High School Girls Cross Country team. They won the Nevada 5A State Championship this afternoon in Boulder City, Nev.
