Carson City arrests: Reno man arrested for possession of stolen vehicle and burglary tools
A 27-year-old Reno man was arrested by Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputies early Friday morning for felony possession of a stolen vehicle and being in possession of burglary tools as well as a misdemeanor warrant out of Reno.
Daniel Alvarez was taken into custody at 1:44 a.m. in the 800 block of S. Carson Street. According to the booking report, the officer made consensual contact with Alvarez and one other person outside of a Carson City hotel, where Alvarez claimed to have driven from Reno to sell a power tool.
The officer asked Alvarez and the other person for a form of identification. Dispatch confirmed Alvarez had a Violations of Conditions warrant out of Reno Municipal Court, according to the report.
Once confirmed, Alvarez was placed into handcuffs and put into a patrol vehicle, the report said.
Upon search incident to arrest, the officer found two screwdrivers and a pair of pliers inside of Alvarez’s backpack, according to the report.
Another deputy on scene noticed a multi-colored motorcycle with no license plates parked 15 feet from where they were standing.
A call to dispatch reported the motorcycle stolen, the report said. The assistant deputy reviewed hotel security footage to find Alvarez riding the motorcycle and parking it, and the ignition was punched out.
According to the report, the screwdrivers found in Alvarez’s backpack are common tools utilized to punch out ignitions.
Alvarez was transported to the Carson City jail for booking without incident.
