Historic Nevada State Prison tours sold out, more planned at later dates

Two men were arrested by the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team early Monday and face multiple drug trafficking, sales and conspiracy charges after approximately 40 pounds of marijuana, 20 grams of cocaine, 11 tabs of Ecstasy, guns and around $24,000 in cash were recovered.

CARSON CITY — More than 200 Carson Middle School future Health Occupations Students of America earned real-world healthcare certifications. Nearly all the students taking Ms. Victoria Jaacovi’s Introduction to HOSA class and Mr. Dayne Carmichael’s Sports Medicine class finished the 2018 school year certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, also known as CPR.

The soothing melody of classical music wafted through the air of downtown Carson City tonight, courtesy of the Carson City Symphony hosting its 34th annual Pops Party concert at the Capital Amphitheater on the grounds of the Nevada Capitol complex.

Senior pranks are a common tradition throughout high schools around the country, and CHS is no exception. This year, CHS Seniors definitely kept the tradition going as could be seen by everyone May 31 and again June 1.

Suds were flowing Saturday in downtown Carson City as the annual Capital City Brewfest returned to the Nevada state capital, featuring signature beers and brews from several local and regional brewers.

Thrills, frills and even some spills are part of circus life. The Ramos Bros. have brought the big top to Carson City now through Monday, June 18 for an old-fashioned circus experience.

UPDATE 4:43PM: The Piper Fire that started Friday afternoon 3 miles north of Silver Springs Piper Ranch along Highway 50A/95 is now roughly 200 acres, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch. Helicopter support and crews are battling the blaze. KOLO reports 8 structures are threatened. Central Lyon Fire is being assisted by Carson City and Storey County, Nevada Division of Forestry and Bureau of Land Management.

Lyon County fire crews were called shortly after 2 p.m. Friday to a report of a brush fire that was burning in the hills north of Silver Springs off of Alternate Route U.S. 50 toward Fernley.

A Carson City man was arrested Thursday for gross misdemeanor possession of a prescription drug without a prescription and a misdemeanor traffic violation, a sheriff’s deputy said.

Mile High Jazz Band Association, in cooperation with Carson Middle School, presents a five-day Jazz Camp with sessions for middle- and high-school musicians, weekdays June 13-19, in the band room at Carson Middle School, 1140 W. King St., in Carson City.
