Carson City Community Radio KNVC accepting radio host volunteers
Have you ever thought that your voice and skills would be a good fit for radio?
Maybe you’re interested in volunteering to help out your community? You have to admit that there’s something magical about the spirit of radio: an ephemeral, friendly voice speaking directly to you, discussing topics that make you think, and playing music that touches you.
You can be that voice!
KNVC, Carson City’s very own community radio station, is welcoming volunteers dedicated to bringing free-form music, current affairs, and news to Carson City, Washoe Valley, and Carson Valley.
Across the country, community radio stations are emerging as vital sources of news, information, and entertainment to people yearning for something fresh and different on the airwaves.
KNVC is an all-volunteer station that plays unique music not heard on other stations in our area, and features programming dedicated to providing a voice to the underrepresented. Take a listen to our programming at 95.1 FM or access our online stream at https://knvc.org to discover a place for your voice!
Currently available volunteer positions are:
- Board Operator/Producer for our locally-produced, “Pop Culture Kaboom” show. Work with host Jimmie Jones to discuss all things gaming, comics, movies, television and bring interviews to an engaged audience.
- D.J. music slots: Acoustic, Bluegrass, Cajun, World, Classical, Jazz, Blues, Alt Rock—mornings, afternoons, and nights.
- Motivated people interested in re-developing a local radio news team.
- Maintenance and “grooming” of our digital library
- Administrative and/or back-office technical and engineering
Can you work from home? Sure! Although KNVC broadcasts from a comfortable station equipped with everything a DJ or host needs to get their voice on the air, creating shows from home is indeed an option.
Several of our on-air hosts work from home. There are equipment needs for the home-based host; the costs are surprisingly low, and we can help guide you.
As more people get vaccinated and the weather warms up, KNVC will gradually increase its presence at special events, and resume summer broadcasts from the studio garden.
Requirements:
--Prior broadcast knowledge or recording studio experience welcome, but not necessary.
KNVC will train.
--Reliability: KNVC may be all-volunteer, but we maintain professional standards.
--Computer knowledge.
--Integrity: Good judgement, honesty, and adhering to the FCC regulations governing broadcasters.
