Roger’s Carpet One sets up shop in long-vacant Golden Dragon restaurant on N. Carson St.
The old Golden Dragon restaurant has stood empty on North Carson St. for decades, even after it was purchased by the Bunny Ranch’s Dennis Hof — who even broached the idea of turning the location into a topless bar — until it has now found new ownership and a new life.
Roger’s Carpet One Floor and Home first began operating in 1986 as Roger’s Magic Carpets, before it joined the Carpet One franchise in the late 90s.
For the past 17 years, the store has operated at Topsy Lane, but the team wanted a more central location to better serve its customers, and found the old Golden Dragon space perfect for the task.
The building, which has stood empty since for at least 30 years, has been remodeled for its new purpose, both through interior and exterior improvements.
However, one relic of the past remains: the giant golden dragon from the original restaurant has found a new home within the carpet store within the high walls of the showroom.
The remodel was done by Bobcat Property Management, who renovated the building from top to bottom with the exception of the original golden dragon.
The business is owned and operated by the McMullen family, with Patrick serving as owner and manager, his wife Maureen as bookkeeper, and their daughter managing the warehouse.
The business doesn’t only provide carpet, but everything from tile, to hardwood, laminate, vinyl, and much more.
Carpet One is open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
