Have you had discolored water or low pressure? Carson City water main flushing underway
It’s that time of year — water main flushing time! You might have noticed strange waterflow occurrences or discoloration, no need to worry, Carson City Public Works crews are conducting much needed maintenance on the main line pipes.
During the spring and summer months water usage increases, now is the time for crews to clean any stored minerals which normally accumulate overtime.
As residents prepare their irrigation systems for the coming months, Carson City Public Works must prepare for the increased demand. Carson City water mains are routinely flushed by a technique known as unidirectional flushing. The procedure involves the systematic opening and closing of water main valves and fire hydrants, one section of main at a time, to force the water through the pipes at high velocity, removing accumulated mineral sediment until the water is clear.
Properties in the immediate area may experience temporary water pressure fluctuations and possible discoloration. If you experience discolored water, help flush it out by opening a hose bib or cold water bathtub faucet for a few minutes until the water clears.
We ask for your patience and understanding during this critical water main flushing process. If you have any concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to call Carson City Public Works at 887-2355. Go here to watch a video released from Carson City Public Works.
