Rotary Club of Carson City to host student music contest
Music is in the air at the next Rotary Club of Carson City meeting. On Tuesday, March 23, at 12:30 p.m. the club will host its annual student music contest. However, this year the contest will take place online instead of in person. The students are high school aged and have been nominated by a teacher. Guests are invited to attend the meeting via ZOOM.
Rotarian Michael Pelham says the club hosts the contest to encourage young people to showcase their skills. “It's important to Rotarians because it gives us a chance to enjoy the next generation of talented musicians.
We also hope it motivates them to pursue a higher education or a career in fine arts such as music.” he said. “Plus, this contest and our upcoming speech contest aligns with our core values of helping students succeed”.
Winners get cash prizes, plenty of accolades and advance to regional Rotary competitions. Anyone interested in attending the online contest to see local up and coming talent should contact Peter Fishburn at pfishburn@charter.net, to learn more about the Rotary Club of Carson City visit www.carsonrotary.org.
