Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt officially files for Governor
LAS VEGAS — Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt made it official Tuesday, filing for the office of Governor of Nevada. With his wife and three children by his side, the Republican pledged to bring and promote his vision for Nevada’s future.
“I continue to be inspired by, and grateful for, the thousands of Nevadans who are joining me in this grassroots campaign,” said Laxalt in a press statement. “Today marks another important step on our journey to write Nevada’s next chapter — the greatest chapter yet in our state’s rich history.”
Among the declared Republican candidates for Governor are Dan Schwartz, Nevada State Treasurer, Jared Fisher, small business owner and William W. Boyd, also a small business owner.
With three months to go before Nevada’s June 12 primary elections, Laxalt's campaign says it continues to build momentum, with nearly 3,000 from across the Silver State pledging to volunteer, according to the news release.
The campaign has recruited statewide campaign chairs, county chairs, and precinct chairs, in addition to earning the endorsement of 16 out of 17 elected county sheriffs.
“I’ve spent a lot of time during this campaign talking with citizens all across Nevada, and listening to their concerns about the challenges our state faces,” Laxalt said. “What they’re telling me is that they understand that we must set the right priorities for our state — policies that will lead to better schools, a robust economy, and greater safety in our local communities. That’s what I’ve been emphasizing in this campaign, and I’m extremely grateful for the passionate support our effort continues to attract.”
Laxalt was sworn into office on January 5, 2015, making him Nevada’s 33rd Attorney General. A father, husband, and fourth-generation native Nevadan, Laxalt is also a former Navy Lieutenant who served as a Judge Advocate General, and volunteered to serve in a combat zone in Iraq, where he and his unit helped detain and prosecute thousands of war criminals and terrorists.
