Mark Twain Elementary first graders receive free books in celebration of Nevada Reading Week
Nevada Reading Week has been celebrated across the state for more than 40 years.
Reading week began Monday, Feb. 28, and the first event in Carson City resulted in each first grade student at Mark Twain Elementary School receiving a new book.
Volunteers read to students before providing them with their very own book to take home, according to United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra.
The theme is Catch the Reading Wave! Keep up to date on Nevada Reading Week by following the hashtag #NevadaReadingWeek on social media.
Nevada Reading Week activities include book studies, author studies, literary readings by renowned authors, book fairs, and family literacy events. The stewards of Nevada Reading Week include PK-12 school librarians, educators, the Nevada Department of Education, the Nevada State Library, public libraries, community leaders, students and their families.
