Carson City arrests: Dispensary employee admits marking down product price, then buying
A 57-year-old man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and failure to yield to a pedestrian, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Deputies were dispatched to the area of Rice Street and North Carson, where a reporting party told dispatch he was followed by a vehicle while trying to walk home and that the driver got out of the vehicle and confronted him.
Deputies made contact with the reporting party. Officers learned the pedestrian had been confronted by the male at a nearby convenience store. The reporting party stated the man attempted to talk to him but he didn't pay him any attention and continued walking northbound on Carson Street toward Rice Street, the arrest report states.
Deputies learned as the pedestrian continued walking, he was cut off multiple times by the driver as he attempted to get home. The reporting party stated the driver confronted him on the sidewalk and this is when he called 911, the report states.
Deputies made contact with the driver, who had a "very strong" odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his person, had red, watery eyes and slurred speech. During standardized field sobriety tests the man showed signs of impairment. He provided a preliminary breath test of .188 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI and failure to yield to a pedestrian. He agreed to evidentiary blood draws. Bail: $1,284.
In other arrests:
— A 37-year-old Reno woman was arrested Jan. 22 for suspicion of misdemeanor embezzlement of less than $1,200, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to a dispensary in the 100 block of Clearview Drive for reports of an employee embezzling funds.
Deputies arrived and made contact with the reporting party who was advised by the security manager for the dispensary. They advised that on Jan. 20 at approximately 4:20 p.m. he was advised by the general manager that the employee, an assistant general manager, had been marking down products from their original price.
The manager was advised their was documentation showing from Dec. 9 through Jan. 15 the woman had marked 29 products down from their original price to $.01. The woman paid $.38 for the 29 products when the retail value was $892. The dispensary provided the woman's entire transaction history and filled out a statement.
A deputy read the employee her Miranda warning. She admitted to marking down products from their original price. She was arrested and taken to jail. Bail: $1,137.
— A 51-year-old man Stacey Martin Martian, turned himself over to the Carson City Sheriff's Office Jail for an outstanding felony failure to appear warrant. The warrant, issued Jan. 4, 2022 out of Carson City District Court II, carries a $10,000 cash only bail.
— A 20-year-old Reno man was arrested Jan. 23 for a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant issued Dec. 30, 2021 by the Nevada Highway Patrol. Bail: $1,120.
