Lyon County Board of Commissioners releases Jan. 17 meeting minutes
The Lyon County Board of Commissioners took the following action on January 17:
— Lyon County has changed vendors that provide Geographic Information Systems (GIS) services to Lyon County. Douglas County has been providing these services since 2011. They notified staff in mid 2018 that would not be providing that service after January 1, 2019 due to increased workload on their end.
Staff negotiated an agreement with Farr West to provide these services and the Board approved a $21,000 contract for services from January 1, 2019 to June 30, 2019.
— The Board accepted an amendment for a DPBH Reproductive Health Services for $76,623.
— The Board approved a proclamation recognizing January 20-26, 2019 as School Choice Week
— Planning Commission Ex-Officio: Commissioner Keller requested this item and presented information that two former Planning Commissioners had requested that the County consider placing a County Commissioner on the Planning Commission as Ex-Officio. Staff expressed concerns from NRS 278.040, Members: Appointment; qualifications; compensation and expenses; terms; removal; vacancies.
1. The members of the planning commission are appointed by the chief executive officer of the city, or in the case of a county by the chair of the board of county commissioners, with the approval of the governing body. The members must not be members of the governing body of the city or county. The majority of the members of the county planning commission in any county whose population is 700,000 or more must reside within the unincorporated area of the county.
Based upon discussion over what to call the position, the purpose of the position and the fact that staff was not aware that the Planning Commission was requesting this the Board voted to table the issue until the second meeting in February.
— Resolution 19-02 Setting Goals to Build a sustainable county. County Manager Page presented the resolution based upon the discussions on the January 7, 2019 Board meeting. There was considerable discussion on the makeup of the Poverty Task Force. Staff will identify and invite the necessary stakeholders and then develop groups of like disciplines to address the various issues and opportunities to address the poverty issue.
