High Wind Warning issued for Lake Tahoe and Sierra, blustery conditions expected in lower valleys
Strong northeast winds will impact the Sierra on Monday and Tuesday, including the Tahoe Basin and northern Mono County in addition to portions of northeast California, mainly south of Susanville, according to the National Weather Service.
A High Wind Warning is in effect beginning at 1 p.m. Monday for the greater Lake Tahoe area including the city of South Lake Tahoe, Tahoe City, Truckee, Markleeville, Stateline, Glenbrook and Incline Village.
Wind gusts through these areas are likely to reach 45-60 mph, with over 100 mph for the Sierra crest. For other areas, it will be breezy, but wind gusts are likely to remain around 35 mph or less.
There's also a Lake Wind Advisory for the Lake Tahoe Basin. Wind gusts will range from 15 to 25 mph with gusts 30 to 45 mph below 6500 feet. Sierra ridges 60 to 80 mph with gusts exceeding 130 mph. Lake Tahoe Waves 3 to 6 feet.

Locations east of the Sierra, including Reno, Carson City and Carson Valley are not under any watches or warnings at this time. Winds will pick up in the day, with gusts up to 25 mph during the daytime, and as high as 40 mph on Monday night, according to the weather service. A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect for Western Nevada Basin and Range including Pyramid Lake, the cities of Fernley, Fallon, Lovelock, Silver Springs, Nixon and Imlay.
