Carson High School Senators cycling racers ride to 2nd place victory at Rattlesnake Roundup championship
The Senator's Cycling cross country mountain bike team raced to a 2nd place victory at Rattlesnake Roundup championship on Oct. 22.
This achievement secured a 2nd place overall season victory.
We usually recognize student athletes who achieve 5th place or higher at race events; however, Senators Cycling is more than podium highlights. Senators Cycling strives to build community mindfulness by way of cohort support, trail stewardship, and of course having fun.
The top finishers for the team were:
Spenser Bray (2nd Varsity boys)
Sylis Chalmers (1st JV2 boys)
Devon Granata (2nd JV1 boys)

This final race of 283 riders concludes the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) in the Northern Nevada Cycling League (NICL) race series which is composed of 18 teams.
The NICL was founded in 2016 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) Project League of NICA. NICA facilitates the development of high school and middle school teams/clubs for grades 6-12 and provides the education, training, licensing and insurance for coaches and volunteers. NICA also produces high-quality mountain bike events and races that emphasize the value of participation, camaraderie, positive sporting behavior and well-being over competition.
Additional highlights this season include:
Elsa Harrison, the 1st student athlete to complete all 6 years of NICA in the NICL.
Senators Cycling received 2 Trek Pathfinder scholarships designed to bring greater diversity, equity, and inclusion to youth mountain biking by providing people of color with the bikes, gear, and resources they need to overcome historical barriers to the sport.
Senators Cycling also received 3 Polygon mountain bikes through Amy Morrison, Dayton High School teacher and Polygon factory team enduro champion.
The 2022 team is composed of 57 youth riders ranging from 6th grade to high school seniors and 27 adult coaches.
