Carson City Library hosts Virtual Program: Hour Of Code

What might be my favorite Christmas present I have yet to open. It‘s a gift from a young man I admire, Bryan, who has some issues to deal with in his daily life. You see, Bryan does not talk, or walk, but is a hidden treasure of Nevada history and folklore. And once science taps into his vault of knowledge we might be the first to get to read the next great Tahoe novel.

YERINGTON — On Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023, the Lyon County Board of County Commissioners approved a resolution to propose the exchange of real property owned by Lyon County located at 158 Garnet Circle, Mound House, for real property owned by Central Lyon County Fire Protection District located at 56 Red Rock Road, Mound House, for the purpose of establishing a Mound House Community Center in the future.

As each year starts, landscape designers come out with their new trends. While I always check them out, they generally amuse me. Too often the “new trends” are things that are making a comeback or are tried and true gardening techniques.

City planners often make controversial decisions regarding our community’s land use. Rotary Club of Carson City members will learn how those decisions are made when Carson City Community Development Director Hope Sullivan joins the club meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

Carson High School Senior Vanessa Diaz is a truly remarkable young lady. Her open, kind and engaging personality makes her instantly likable. Even as a freshman, Vanessa stood out for her tenacity and focus on her future.

The start of the new year brings new hope and, often, a refreshed set of goals. While many may be focused on getting on track with their physical health, it can also be beneficial to set goals around financial improvements so you can achieve stronger financial independence.

Meet Tiny, with her big whiskers, white toes and fluffy tail, she is absolutely adorable. This 7-year-old short-haired tabby girl is a little hesitant around strangers, but incredibly sweet and loving once she is comfortable with you.

It has been one year since Anna Marie Scott, 23, was found shot to death in a burning car on the freeway between Reno and Carson City, and detectives still have no updates on her case.

On a chilly February morning, deputies and first responders were dispatched just after 4 a.m. to a stretch of the busy I-580 overpass between Carson City and Reno.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office finished its first saturation patrol during the early morning hours of Saturday, January 28th.

The Capital City Arts Initiative’s exhibition, "Selected Works: Maya of Guatemala and Western Landscapes", presents Michael Plyler’s photographs that document his years working in Guatemala and celebrating landscapes of the Intermountain West.

A winter storm will move into the region beginning late Saturday, bringing a rain and snow mix to the Carson City area and most valley floors with the Sierra seeing as much as 2 feet or more of snow by Sunday night, according to the National Weather Service.

In just its fourth year of operating as a separate entity from Las Vegas, the Northern Nevada Olympic Development teams experienced its best success ever earlier this month at the ODP West Region Championships in Mesa, Arizona.
