DESCRIPTION:Layers of Re-iteration: The Long Conversation is the second chapter of an evolving exhibition inspired by the enduring legacy of Galen Brown and Jim McCormick. Moving beyond tribute\, it follows the quiet passage of ideas across our community\, revealing how artistic lives continue through shared conversations\, generous mentorship\, and the countless creative exchanges that ripple outward long after the maker has left the room. \n\n\n\nAt the heart of that legacy was the Printmakers’ Conspiracy\, a loosely organized collective founded by Candace Garlock\, Jim McCormick and Nolan Preece that brought artists together through exhibitions\, collaboration\, and an unwavering commitment to one another’s practices. More than a printmaking group\, it became a creative ecosystem where friendships were forged\, ideas were tested\, and artistic voices found encouragement. The Long Conversation extends that spirit\, celebrating not only the work of two remarkable artists but the living community they helped create\, one that continues to inspire new generations of makers. \n\n\n\nAn artists’ reception will be held on September 24\, 5:30-7:30 p.m. The public is invited to meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments. The exhibit is available for view until December 16. The gallery is free and open to the public\, Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Located in the Bristlecone Building on the Carson City Campus\, 2201 West College Parkway\, Carson City.

DESCRIPTION:The sixth  annual Chowder for Charity fundraiser benefiting Carson City’s FISH returns Friday\, November 6\, at Tee Jay’s Corner inside Cactus Jack’s. \n\n\n\nOwner Chuck McCray has a serious appreciation for chowder. His enthusiasm has even led him to research its history and create a New England clam chowder inspired by the version described in Herman Melville’s classic novel Moby-Dick. \n\n\n\nBut for McCray\, a good bowl of chowder can serve a purpose beyond simply warming people up on a cold Nevada day. Chowder for Charity was created as a way to raise money for FISH (Friends In Service Helping) at a time of year when the organization traditionally sees an increased need for its services. \n\n\n\n“What’s going to happen with FISH is\, when November begins\, they’re going to come into their season where the weather gets cold\, and they’re going to start needing all of the items they need to operate\,” McCray said. “The need to serve people increases by volumes — that’s why we chose FISH\, because they have that need\, particularly as things begin to get much harder for people in need.” \n\n\n\nMcCray has worked alongside FISH for some time through his service with St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and the Episcopal Diocese of Nevada. Both are partners with Carson City’s Night Off The Streets (NOTS) program\, which provides warming shelters during the colder months in an effort to reduce deaths related to exposure. \n\n\n\n“We’ve been associated with FISH for a while now in various ways\,” McCray said. “I’m not afraid to say we’re asking for substantial donations because they are a worthy cause.” \n\n\n\nDuring Chowder for Charity\, guests can enjoy a hearty\, homemade\, Moby-Dick-inspired 12-ounce bowl of New England clam chowder\, with donations beginning at $17. McCray hopes patrons will consider the $17 amount a starting point and contribute more if they are able. \n\n\n\n“The goal this year is $2\,000\,” McCray said. “I want to sign a check from Tee Jay’s Corner to FISH for $2\,000 or more.” \n\n\n\nLast year’s Chowder for Charity raised more than $1\,600\, and McCray hopes to build on that success by increasing the amount raised each year. \n\n\n\nThis year’s Chowder for Charity will take place Friday\, November 6\, during Tee Jay’s Corner’s regular business hours\, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. \n\n\n\nThose hoping for a bowl are encouraged not to wait until the end of the day — once the chowder is gone\, it’s gone. \n\n\n\nCome hungry\, enjoy a bowl of homemade New England clam chowder\, and help Tee Jay’s Corner support FISH and neighbors in need as Carson City heads into the colder months.”

DESCRIPTION:The ladies of UWF have been hosting this annual craft fair for 20+ years as a way to provide scholarships for local students who are pursuing post-secondary studies\, and to create income to fund other causes\, both local and global. For many years they met monthly and made the crafts that were sold at the event. \n\n\n\nLast year we opened the event up to crafters who would like an opportunity to sell their creations\, as well as select resellers. UWF will also be having a large bake sale at the same time and a table of their crafts.  \n\n\n\nWe are also a stop on the CC Downtown Wine Walk on Saturday\, Nov 7 from 1-4 pm at the main church door that day so feel free to enjoy a glass of alcohol-free wine while you shop for holiday gifts.
