DESCRIPTION:The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services and Carson City CASA\, in partnership with the RennerVation Foundation\, are proud to present the fourth annual Walk Us Home Run/Walk for foster homes and Family Resource Fair on May 9. \n\n\n\nThe run and walk features four categories: an 8-kilometer run (4.97 miles)\, a 5-kilometer run (3.1 miles)\, a 3-kilometer walk (1.86 miles) and a virtual 5-kilometer walk.  \n\n\n\nWear your favorite hat to reflect this year’s “hats on\, hearts open for foster kids” theme.  \n\n\n\nThe event starts at the Brewery Arts Center\, 449 W. King St.\, and winds through West Carson City’s residential neighborhoods.  \n\n\n\nPacket pickup: 8 a.m. at the Brewery Arts CenterThe run-walk and fair will kick off at 9 a.m.Awards ceremony: 10 a.m.Free family resorce fair: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. \n\n\n\nRace proceeds will support 2026 Camp RennerVation\, an all-expenses-paid camp for foster children run through actor Jeremy Renner’s charitable foundation.  \n\n\n\nEach camp session serves approximately 110 youth\, identified through a collaborative partnership with DCFS to ensure those who can benefit most have access to the experience. Organizers emphasize that access is a priority\, not a barrier.  \n\n\n\nThrough these group activities\, campers build meaningful peer relationships while strengthening their cognitive\, social\, and emotional skills. The program creates a safe and supportive environment where foster and at-risk youth can develop confidence\, practice mindfulness\, and gain essential life and coping skills that support their overall well-being.  \n\n\n\nRegistration fees begin at $35 and include a race T-shirt and finisher bag. Race-walk divisions include children (ages 10-12)\, teens (ages 13-17) and adults (ages 18+). Children younger than 10 participate for free with adult registration and supervision. DESCRIPTION:When: May – JulyReception: May 9\, 4-6 pmSaturday afternoons 2-4 pm during library hoursWhere: Silver City Schoolhouse\, 385 High Street\, Silver City\, NV \n\n\n\nThe Silver City Preservation Society is pleased to present a show of paintings by JoAnne Johnson Beck. The work was created in the early 1970s when Beck lived in Gold Hill and contributed artwork to the Gold Hill News. The work is whimsical and features characters\, and landscapes from the Comstock. They appear to be a combination of ink\, pencil and watercolor. They reflect the cultural and artistic freedom many people describe from their time in the 1960s and 70s on the Comstock.Jo Anne was born in Olympia Washington but spent her childhood first in the Mojave Desert and then in Sacramento where she attended Catholic school. Once she was old enough\, she moved around a lot and enjoyed many adventures. She lived on Vancouver Island\, in Gold Hill\, Nevada and Oakland and San Franciso where she an art degree at California College of the Arts. She worked in graphic design and in theater on costumes during her time in the Bay Area. Later she moved to Switzerland and then France. She lives in Montpellier where she is still a painter.The Silver City Schoolhouse is a historic one-room schoolhouse. It functioned as a school from 1868-1958. It opened during the Gold Rush when several thousand people lived in Silver City. After it closed in 1958 it became the firehouse and community center. The building burned in 2004 and was rebuilt over the next several years\, using as much original material as could be salvaged from the fire. The Silver City Volunteer Fire Department got their own firehouse building and today the Schoolhouse functions once again as a community center\, next to the beautiful Silver City Park. The building is used for community meetings\, town events\, parties\, art shows\, classes\, community art projects\, coffee houses\, lectures\, book readings and signings and much more. It also boasts a small but beautiful library.The Silver City Preservation Society (SCPS)\, a 501c3 nonprofit was recently formed to manage the Schoolhouse building and develop community programs and art and culture programming. Proceeds from the bar and bake sale benefit the SCPS.Silver City Arts is a committee of local residents who help produce arts and culture programming in Silver City. Silver City Arts volunteers graciously help with set up\, clean up\, run the bar and door and contribute magnificent baked goods. We could not do the series without them and are deeply grateful for their support.

DESCRIPTION:Carson City Symphony’s Recorder and String Ensembles \n\n\n\nPresent “Spring Serenade” Concert\,\n\n\n\nSaturday\, May 9\, 2026\n\n\n\nThe Carson City Symphony Association will present a concert\, “Spring Serenade\,” on Saturday\, May 9\, 2026\, at 6:00 p.m. at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church\, 3680 N. Hwy. 395\, south of Best Buy\, Carson City. Admission is free\, donations welcome\, \n\n\n\nConsort Canzona\, an early music ensemble featuring soprano\, alto\, and tenor recorders and cello\, will perform the first part of the program. They will play madrigals\, Celtic tunes\, and more. Not Quite Ready for Carnegie Hall Players (NQR)\, an adult intermediate string ensemble directed by Suzanne McGarraugh\, will play classical and contemporary selections. The two groups will combine for the final piece. \n\n\n\nCarson City Symphony Association’s 2025-26 concerts and educational activities are supported with public funding through Carson City\, the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts\, by the Associated Chamber Music Players (ACMP)\, and private donations.
