DESCRIPTION:The Reno Jazz Orchestra will celebrate the legendary women who helped shape jazz with “Divas of Jazz” on Oct. 11\, 2026\, at Nightingale Concert Hall at the University of Nevada\, Reno. \n\n\n\nThe two-hour performance will pay tribute to iconic vocalists including Billie Holiday\, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan\, while celebrating the artistry and enduring influence of women in jazz. \n\n\n\n“The concert is designed to showcase the profound influence these divas had on the jazz genre\,” said Dr. Greg Johnson\, music director of the Reno Jazz Orchestra. “We’re excited to bring our guest vocalist\, Kathleen Grace\, to the stage to capture the spirit and artistry of these extraordinary artists.” \n\n\n\nGrace\, a vocalist\, songwriter and educator\, brings a distinctive style that bridges jazz\, folk and Americana. Her expressive vocals and authentic approach make her a natural fit for an evening celebrating some of the most influential women in music. \n\n\n\n“Kathleen Grace is a perfect fit for this concert and complements the talents and legacy of the legendary divas of yesteryear\,” Johnson said. \n\n\n\nThe evening’s setlist will include such favorites as “You Make Me Feel So Young\,” “Pennies From Heaven\,” “Time After Time\,” “Chega de Saudade” and “Almost Like Being in Love.” \n\n\n\nJohnson will lead the 17-piece Reno Jazz Orchestra in an evening designed for longtime jazz fans and newcomers alike. The performance begins at 4 p.m. Oct. 11. Tickets are $50 to $60 and include reserved seating. Student tickets are $10 with a current student ID. \n\n\n\nFounded in 1997\, the Reno Jazz Orchestra carries forward the big band tradition shaped by musicians who have performed with artists such as Frank Sinatra\, Elvis Presley and Luciano Pavarotti. Moving beyond tribute\, it follows the quiet passage of ideas across our community\, revealing how artistic lives continue through shared conversations\, generous mentorship\, and the countless creative exchanges that ripple outward long after the maker has left the room. \n\n\n\nAt the heart of that legacy was the Printmakers’ Conspiracy\, a loosely organized collective founded by Candace Garlock\, Jim McCormick and Nolan Preece that brought artists together through exhibitions\, collaboration\, and an unwavering commitment to one another’s practices. More than a printmaking group\, it became a creative ecosystem where friendships were forged\, ideas were tested\, and artistic voices found encouragement. The Long Conversation extends that spirit\, celebrating not only the work of two remarkable artists but the living community they helped create\, one that continues to inspire new generations of makers. \n\n\n\nAn artists’ reception will be held on September 24\, 5:30-7:30 p.m. The public is invited to meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments. The exhibit is available for view until December 16. The gallery is free and open to the public\, Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Located in the Bristlecone Building on the Carson City Campus\, 2201 West College Parkway\, Carson City.
