Virginia City forturns up the heat for 44th annual Chili on the Comstock \n\n\n\nWeekend celebration features chili tastings\, a craft beer tour and crowd-favorite pepper-eating challenge \n\n\n\nVirginia City\, Nev. – One of the West’s longest-running food events returns as Virginia City hosts the 44th annual Chili on the Comstock on Saturday\, May 16and Sunday\, May 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Meticulously crafted by some of the most talented chili chefs this side of the Mississippi\, the lineup showcaseschili varieties from blazing hot to mild and savory. This two-day experience also serves as a qualifier for the International Chili Society World Finals. Attendees can add on to the experience by participating in the craft beer tour\, the return of ‘The Great Fire-Hot Chili Pepper Challenge\,’ and by patronizing Virginia City’s local merchants. Tickets and tour packages are available for purchase online here. \n\n\n\n “Chili on the Comstock gives visitors a chance to experience Virginia City at their own pace\,” said Todd Tuttle\, tourism director for Virginia City. “After 44 years\, it’s become a tradition that brings people from all over to sample world-class flavors\, cheer on the Great Fire-Hot Chili Pepper Challenge and take in everything happening around town. It’s the kind of weekend where you settle in\, stay awhile and make more of a trip out of it.” \n\n\n\nChili on the Comstock offers several ways for attendees to take part throughout the weekend. The Chili Tour ticket includes 10 samples from participating chefs and a ballot to vote for the People’s Choice award\, while the Craft Beer Crawl features 12 pours from regional breweries poured at Virginia City’s renowned saloons and craft beer tents\, along with three sweet treats. Chili and craft beer packages are available for purchase\, offering a mix of chili and beer\, in addition to smaller samples. \n\n\n\nFor those seeking a more competitive experience\, the Great Fire-Hot Chili Pepper Challenge will feature timed rounds with chili peppers from all across the Scoville Scale. Participants face off in timed\, two-minute intervals\, sampling increasingly hotter chili peppers in pursuit of glory. Registration in the challenge includes five chili tastings\, two drink tokens and a chance to win one of three trophies. The top finisher earns the title of ‘Chili Eating Champion’ and takes home a portion of the registration pot as a cash prize. \n\n\n\nVisitors are encouraged to extend their stay and experience more of Virginia City beyond the event. A variety of local hotels and accommodations are within walking distance of C Street\, making it easy to enjoy the weekend’s activities without traveling.
