SUMMARY:No Kings Reno Protest October 18th
DESCRIPTION:RENO\, NV – As President Trump continues to expand his authoritarian power grab\, thousands of northern Nevadans will come together with millions of Americans across the country in a nationwide day of nonviolent protest at the second No Kings Day of Action. There are currently more than 2\,500 events planned nationwide – more than twice the number as the original No Kings day – with new events being added daily. \n\n\n\nThe Reno event will take place from 11:00 am. until 1:00 p.m. and will include a march downtown from the Bruce R. Thompson Federal Courthouse building to the City Plaza (or Believe sign). The event will include multiple guest speakers\, including elected officials and other community leaders\, music\, a mariachi band and other live performances. There will also be a food drive on behalf of the Northern NV Member Assistance Program\, the charitable arm of the Northern Nevada Central Labor Council.  \n\n\n\nThe event is a collaboration between seven of the community’s most active pro-democracy organizations in the area including Indivisible Northern Nevada\, 50501 Northern Nevada\, Indivisible Carson City\, Bans Off Our Bodies\, Biggest Little Action Group\, the Northern Central Labor Council and Third Act Nevada.  \n\n\n\nAccording to organizers\, the more time Donald Trump spends in office\, the larger their movement becomes. “As President Trump continues to behave like he’s a dictator\, our numbers continue to grow\, so we are coming together once again to stand up and push back against his hateful\, authoritarian actions\,” said Aerial Torres-Johnson of 50501 Northern Nevada. “Our peaceful day of action will bring together local residents from all walks of life to reject this corruption and abuse of power. They’ve gone too far. But this country doesn’t belong to bullies\, dictators or kings – it belongs to the people.”  \n\n\n\nCarson City community organizer Lois Stokes of Bans Off Our Bodies says that as more Nevadans feel the impact of Trump’s policies and actions\, the more they want to push back. “He’s using OUR tax dollars to pay for HIS power grabs\,” she explains. “He’s pouring public money into his authoritarian takeovers of cities like Chicago\, Portland and D.C. He’s deploying federal forces\, seizing local police departments\, and funding mass detention and deportation operations while cutting services that working families rely on every single day. Enough is enough\, and for anyone who feels the same\, this movement is for you.”   \n\n\n\nOn June 14\, more than five million people across all 50 states joined No Kings in the largest single-day protest yet against President Trump’s authoritarianism. The October 18 day of action is the next step in this growing movement\, with over 2\,500 events registered to take part in another coordinated\, peaceful mobilization. In Nevada\, there are nine events registered to date\, including in Republican stronghold communities like Elko\, Hawthorne and Mina. A full list of partners for the national event can be seen at www.nokings.org/partners. \n\n\n\nFor a full list of participating cities\, event details\, and spokespeople available for interviews\, visit www.NoKings.org or contact media@nokings.org. \n\n\n\nAll No Kings events adhere to a shared commitment to nonviolent protest and community safety. Organizers are trained in de-escalation and are working closely with local partners to ensure peaceful and powerful actions nationwide.

SUMMARY:Mark Twain Days: On the Trail of the Jackalope with Michael Branch - FREE
DESCRIPTION:The never-before-told story of the horned rabbit—the myths\, the hoaxes\, the very real scientific breakthrough it inspired—and how it became a cultural touchstone of the American West. \n\n\n\nJust what is a jackalope? Purported to be part jackrabbit and part antelope\, the jackalope began as a local joke concocted by two young brothers in a small Wyoming town during the Great Depression. Their creation quickly spread around the U.S.\, where it now regularly appears as innumerable forms of kitsch—wall mounts\, postcards\, keychains\, coffee mugs\, shot glasses\, and so on. A vast body of folk narratives has carried the jackalope’s fame around the world to inspire art\, music\, film\, even erotica! \n\n\n\nBrewery Arts Center; East Building; Grand Ballroom449 W KING STCARSON CITY\, NV

DESCRIPTION:We heard you Carson City! You want a No Kings protest\, and you got it! Get your protest in early and then head over to the Brewery Arts Center to celebrate Mark Twain Days! We KNOW Mark Twain would be protesting if he was alive today! \n\n\n\nIn America\, we don’t put up with would-be kings. \n\n\n\nOur peaceful movement is only getting bigger and stronger. “NO KINGS” is more than just a slogan—it’s the foundation our nation was built upon. Born in the streets\, carried by millions in chants and on posters\, it echoes from city blocks to rural town squares\, uniting people across this country to fight dictatorship together. \n\n\n\nThe president thinks his rule is absolute. But in America\, we don’t have kings\, and we won’t back down against chaos\, corruption\, and cruelty. Grow our movement and join us.

SUMMARY:Mark Twain Days: Tin Drum Family Band| Nashville Social Club
DESCRIPTION:From international tours and Grammy nominations to a surprise lockdown in their family home — the Tin Drum Family Band was born out of a moment no one saw coming. When Covid struck\, music legends Burleigh Sr.\, Mary Harris\, and their children Sierra and Burleigh Jr. unexpectedly found themselves under one roof for over two years. What started as a family wedding turned into the creation of something profound: a band\, an album\, and a legacy.Out of love\, loss\, and deep connection came “Emerson Street” — an album filled with heart\, harmony\, and healing\, named after the home that held it all together.  \n\n\n\n Meet the Band:  \n\n\n\n Burleigh Drummond Sr.A founding member of Ambrosia (5 Grammy noms\, 5 Top Ten singles)\, Burleigh has toured\, recorded\, and produced with artists like Alan Parsons\, Michael McDonald\, Edgar Winter\, Al Stewart\, Firefall\, Player\, and more. He’s a master drummer\, composer\, and engineer — but his favorite gig? Playing with his wife\, daughter\, and son in Tin Drum Family Band.  \n\n\n\n Mary HarrisA powerhouse vocalist\, arranger\, and keyboardist\, Mary has lent her talents to Pink Floyd\, Jimmy Buffett\, Carole King\, Michael McDonald\, Animal Logic (with Stewart Copeland and Stanley Clarke)\, and many more. As co-creator of Tin Drum (with three albums under their belt)\, she’s also helped shape generations of young musicians — including her own kids.  \n\n\n\n Sierra R. DrummondSinger-songwriter\, multi-instrumentalist\, and lyrical soul. With influences like Tracy Chapman\, Bonnie Raitt\, Lauryn Hill\, and her own musical parents\, Sierra blends indie folk\, R&B\, and blues into an authentic\, emotional sound. After a long recovery from a vocal injury\, she’s back — and her voice has never been stronger.  \n\n\n\n Burleigh M. Drummond Jr.A globally inspired drummer\, multi-instrumentalist\, and producer\, Burleigh Jr. brings rhythm from around the world — India\, Africa\, Latin America — to the front porch of American roots music. He’s toured\, recorded\, and studied extensively\, but his most meaningful work comes from collaborating with his family and sharing music that connects us all.  \n\n\n\nAlso featuring musical guests David Harris\, John Wood\, Marc Bonilla\, and Devon Geyer\, the Tin Drum Family Band is more than a band — it’s a living\, breathing\, musical memoir. \n\n\n\n Come experience the joy\, the heartbreak\, and the magic of Emerson Street — live! \n\n\n\n A night of original music\, rich harmonies\, and deep family roots. You’ll laugh\, cry\, and leave inspired. \n\n\n\nGet tickets: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/tin-drum-family-band-burleigh-drummond-founding-member-of-ambrosia-tickets-1508412505409 \n\n\n\nNashville Social Club1105 South Carson StreetCarson City\, Nevada
