The Sierra Nevada Forums\, in partnership with the AAUW Capital Branch and League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada will host “A Conversation About Fraud” a panel discussion on Tuesday February 10 at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall\, 511 W King St in Carson City. Doors open at 5:30 pmand the program starts at 6 pm. The Nevada Appeal and KUNR are the media co-sponsors. This is the fifth forum of the eleventh season of free community forums on topics of current interest. The forum will be moderated by Tabitha Mueller of the Nevada Independent. Panelists include Timothy Johnston of the Better Business Bureau Northern Nevada; Mark Krueger from the Bureau of Consumer Protection in the Office of the Attorney General; Riley Franco\, Director of Consumer Protection for AARP Nevada; and Ken Furlong\, Carson City Sheriff.Together\, they will discuss the most common scams currently being used\, how fraudsters target individuals\, what to do if you have been affected\, and steps you can take to reduce your risk in the future. Alisha Moss\, Prevention Coordinator for HCC\, will give an overview of the Clean Indoor Air Act\, as well as updates about current tobacco use and vaping prevention strategies in our region. \n\n\n\nIn addition to breakfast and guest presentations\, the Coalition’s bi-monthly meetings include updates and announcements from Coalition staff\, volunteers and community partners. \n\n\n\nHealthy Communities Coalition is comprised of local\, state\, federal and tribal group partners\, community volunteers\, and a board of directors and staff all working together on a common goal to strengthen communities in the Lyon and Storey regions. DESCRIPTION:Guest Conductor Dr. Phoenix Delgado leads the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in an elegant evening of romantic and expressive music\, featuring acclaimed violin virtuoso Elizabeth Pitcairn. \n\n\n\nThe program opens with Mozart’s electrifying Overture to Don Giovanni\, followed by Brahms’ beloved Liebeslieder Waltzes\, celebrating love and human connection. Fauré’s graceful Pavane adds refined beauty\, while Verdi’s joyful Brindisi from La traviata brings operatic sparkle. The first half also includes Jennifer Lucy Cook’s contemporary work For You I Will Be An Island\, offering a moving modern contrast. \n\n\n\nAfter intermission\, the spotlight turns to Elizabeth Pitcairn performing Dvořák’s Violin Concerto in A Minor on the legendary Red Mendelssohn Stradivarius violin from 1720\, an instrument famously associated with the film The Red Violin. Pitcairn’s virtuosity\, expressive depth\, and commanding stage presence promise a powerful and unforgettable performance\, with possible surprise encores. \n\n\n\nElizabeth Pitcairn has appeared at Carnegie Hall\, Lincoln Center\, Walt Disney Concert Hall\, and with leading orchestras around the world.
