SUMMARY:Nevada State Museum brings Halloween to life with Trunk-or-Treat and Haunted House October 24th and 25th
DESCRIPTION:Nevada State Museum brings Halloween to life with Trunk-or-Treat\, Haunted House \n\n\n\nCommunity invited to enjoy frightfully delightful fun Oct. 24 and 25 \n\n\n\nCARSON CITY\, NV – Celebrate Halloween a week early with back-to-back spooktacular events at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City! \n\n\n\nOn Friday night\, October 24\, the Nevada State Museum hosts a free family-friendly Halloween Block Party Trunk-or-Treat event from 5-8 p.m. along N. Curry Street between Robinson and Washington featuring vehicles that are ornately decorated in the Halloween spirit… and teeming with candy! Parts of the Museum will be open and free as well\, including the ghost town and underground mine exhibits\, which feature light-hearted haunts that are sure to make everyone in the family smile. There will also be a “Spooky Critters” Curator’s Corner set up in the Dema Guinn Concourse\, two food trucks—CandyBurger and Bubbly Waffle Hub—in our front parking lot\, and shopping in the Museum Store! \n\n\n\nReservations for trunk-or-treat spaces can be made by filling out online registration at https://www.carsonnvmuseum.org/nevada-state-museum-trunk-or-treat-registration-request-form/ or by contacting Store Manager Cayce Weislow at c.weislow@nevadaculture.org or 775-687-0662. \n\n\n\nThen\, on Saturday\, October 25\, bewitching hour at the Nevada State Museum takes a dark turn with “Fright At the Museum” haunted house from 6-9 p.m. Visitors who dare will start out on a guided behind-the-scenes tour into the historic basement “catacombs” of the old Mint building\, where visitors rarely get to go… and even fewer return from! But suddenly\, deep inside the building’s blackened bowels and haunted recesses\, something goes horribly wrong during the tour. \n\n\n\nPrepare for a night of thrills\, chills and “toxic spills” as the Museum literally comes alive—the result of a terrifying “behind-the-screams” catastrophe! Fearful surprises lurk around every corner\, even under your feet! So\, mind every step and be sure to stick close to one another\, because this year’s haunt is bigger and scarier than ever before! \n\n\n\nAges 10 and up only. NOT APPROPRIATE FOR YOUNG CHILDREN. Admission is $15 per person and paid at the Museum Store\, which will be open for shopping until 9 p.m. \n\n\n\n“Fright At the Museum” is a fundraiser for the Nevada State Museum\, helping to pay for its programming and outreach. SUMMARY:Drug Take Back October 25th in Dayton\, Silver Springs\, Virginia City\, Yerington
DESCRIPTION:National Take Back events offer safe ways to dispose of expired or unneeded prescription drugs. \n\n\n\nOn National Prescription Drug Take Back Day\, Saturday\, October 25\, 2025\, Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties (HCC) joins the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office\, the Yerington Police Department and the Storey County Sheriff’s Office to host drop off locations for unneeded medications in Dayton\, Silver Springs\, Virginia City and Yerington.  \n\n\n\nNo needles (sharps) will be accepted at these sites. \n\n\n\nDAYTON: On Saturday\, October 25 from 10am- 2pm\, medications can be dropped off in front of the Smith’s Food and Drug Store at 2200 U.S. Highway 50 East. \n\n\n\nSILVER SPRINGS: Also on Saturday\, October 25 from 10am-2pm\, unneeded prescriptions can be dropped off in front of the Dollar General store in Silver Springs at 1105 Lake Avenue. \n\n\n\nVIRGINIA CITY: In addition\, people can drop off their unneeded medications at the Storey County Sheriff’s Main Office at 205 South C Street in Virginia City on Saturday\, October 25 between 10am-2pm. \n\n\n\nYERINGTON: In Yerington\, unneeded medications can be dropped off in front of Raley’s grocery store at 176 West Goldfield Avenue on Saturday\, October 25 from 10am-2pm. \n\n\n\nThis effort aims to help keep communities healthy and safe by educating the public about the potential for misuse of medications. The events also support safe disposal of medications. Flushing prescription and over-the-counter medications down drains can contaminate waterways and end up in our drinking water.  \n\n\n\nDuring the Take Back events\, HCC will also offer free medication disposal kits\, medication lock boxes\, and naloxone\, funded through the Nevada Opioid Response Program and Funds for a Resilient Nevada.  \n\n\n\nSafe medication disposal pouches can be used at home as an effective way to destroy and properly dispose of unwanted medications. \n\n\n\nNaloxone is used to treat opioid overdose by temporarily reversing the effects of opioid medicines and drugs.  \n\n\n\nThe Nevada State Department of Health and Human Services supports HCC’s promotion of Take Back events through a Substance Abuse Prevention\, Treatment and Recovery Block grant.  \n\n\n\nThe effort to collect and safely dispose of unneeded medication is part of the nationwide federal initiative\, with nearly 5\,000 collection sites across the U.S. Since its inception in 2010\, the U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Take Back Day has removed millions of pounds of unneeded medications from communities across the country.
