SUMMARY:Carson City’s Traveling Troubadour Finds a Home at Saltwater Tavern
DESCRIPTION:Monthly artist residency brings live music\, storytelling\, and community together \n\n\n\nFor music lovers in Carson City\, the third Saturday of every month has become something special at Saltwater Tavern. That’s when local musician Chris Kay\, known throughout the region as “The Traveling Troubadour\,” takes the stage as part of his ongoing artist residency at the pirate-and-mermaid-themed gathering spot in downtown Carson City. \n\n\n\nA veteran performer with decades of musical experience\, Kay has built a reputation for captivating audiences with an extensive repertoire that spans heartfelt ballads\, classic favorites\, folk influences\, and crowd-pleasing singalongs. Whether performing on downtown streets\, at community events\, or in intimate venues\, he has become a familiar and beloved figure in Northern Nevada’s music scene. \n\n\n\nAt Saltwater Tavern\, Kay’s residency offers something increasingly rare in today’s entertainment landscape: an authentic\, personal musical experience. Rather than simply playing songs\, the Traveling Troubadour creates an atmosphere where patrons feel connected—to the music\, to one another\, and to the stories behind the songs. \n\n\n\n“Chris has a unique ability to read a room\,” said local patrons who regularly attend his performances. “One moment he’s performing a moving ballad\, and the next he’s got the whole tavern singing along.” \n\n\n\nThe residency reflects Saltwater Tavern’s commitment to supporting local artists and creating community-centered entertainment. Known for its welcoming environment and eclectic lineup of events\, the tavern has become a gathering place for people seeking more than just a night out. The addition of a recurring residency gives music fans a reliable opportunity to experience live local talent on a regular basis. \n\n\n\nGuests can expect an evening filled with acoustic favorites\, requests\, storytelling\, and the kind of relaxed atmosphere that encourages conversation and connection. The performances appeal to a wide audience\, from longtime music enthusiasts to younger listeners discovering live acoustic music for the first time. \n\n\n\nFor Kay\, whose musical journey has taken him from stages and street corners to festivals and community events throughout Nevada\, the residency represents another chapter in a career built on sharing music with people wherever they gather. His performances embody the spirit of the traditional troubadour—traveling\, entertaining\, and bringing communities together through song. \n\n\n\nAs the third Saturday of each month approaches\, Saltwater Tavern’s regulars know they can count on an evening of memorable music\, good company\, and the unmistakable sound of Carson City’s own Traveling Troubadour. \n\n\n\nChris Kay – The Traveling TroubadourArtist Residency at Saltwater TavernEvery Third SaturdayLive Music • Community • Great Drinks • Good Company \n\n\n\nIn a world increasingly dominated by digital entertainment\, Chris Kay’s residency is a reminder that sometimes the best nights are still spent listening to live music among friends\, where every performance is a little different and every song has a story to tell. \n\n\n\nSaltwater Tavern306 E William StCarson City\, NV 89701(775) 301-6132

SUMMARY:Paintings from the 1970’s on the Comstock - JoAnne Johnson Beck
DESCRIPTION:When: May – JulyReception: May 9\, 4-6 pmSaturday afternoons 2-4 pm during library hoursWhere: Silver City Schoolhouse\, 385 High Street\, Silver City\, NV \n\n\n\nThe Silver City Preservation Society is pleased to present a show of paintings by JoAnne Johnson Beck. The work was created in the early 1970s when Beck lived in Gold Hill and contributed artwork to the Gold Hill News. The work is whimsical and features characters\, and landscapes from the Comstock. They appear to be a combination of ink\, pencil and watercolor. They reflect the cultural and artistic freedom many people describe from their time in the 1960s and 70s on the Comstock.Jo Anne was born in Olympia Washington but spent her childhood first in the Mojave Desert and then in Sacramento where she attended Catholic school. Once she was old enough\, she moved around a lot and enjoyed many adventures. She lived on Vancouver Island\, in Gold Hill\, Nevada and Oakland and San Franciso where she an art degree at California College of the Arts. She worked in graphic design and in theater on costumes during her time in the Bay Area. Later she moved to Switzerland and then France. She lives in Montpellier where she is still a painter. The Silver City Schoolhouse is a historic one-room schoolhouse. It functioned as a school from 1868-1958. It opened during the Gold Rush when several thousand people lived in Silver City. After it closed in 1958 it became the firehouse and community center. The building burned in 2004 and was rebuilt over the next several years\, using as much original material as could be salvaged from the fire. The Silver City Volunteer Fire Department got their own firehouse building and today the Schoolhouse functions once again as a community center\, next to the beautiful Silver City Park. The building is used for community meetings\, town events\, parties\, art shows\, classes\, community art projects\, coffee houses\, lectures\, book readings and signings and much more. It also boasts a small but beautiful library. The Silver City Preservation Society (SCPS)\, a 501c3 nonprofit was recently formed to manage the Schoolhouse building and develop community programs and art and culture programming. Proceeds from the bar and bake sale benefit the SCPS.Silver City Arts is a committee of local residents who help produce arts and culture programming in Silver City. Silver City Arts volunteers graciously help with set up\, clean up\, run the bar and door and contribute magnificent baked goods. We could not do the series without them and are deeply grateful for their support.

SUMMARY:Polecat Tavern’s Outdoor Summer Concerts Series - Saturdays - June 6th thru August 29th at 7pm
DESCRIPTION:Polecat Tavern at 260 W Winnie Lane in Carson City is thrilled to announce their 2 nd annual Polecat Summer Concert Series in the Parking Lot this summer. The series starts on Saturday\, June 6 th with the rocking sounds of The Gary Wheeler Band\, and runs every Saturday Night at 7pm through August 29 thwhen Gardnerville based Funk-ProgressiveReggae-Space Rock Local Anthology will close the series. Check out polecattavern.com for the full lineup. \n\n\n\nThere will be a large canopy set up\, and tables and chairs will be available\, but the staff urges you to bring your own camp chairs ’cause it tends to fill up fast. You are encouraged to bring a picnic basket or you can order in for delivery\, and there will be plenty of beverages and snacks available to purchase. There’s even a rumor that there will be frozen margaritas this year! \n\n\n\nPolecat Tavern is a “Place for Music” located on West Winnie Lane in the old Lamplighter location. The owners Keith Alan Barnett\, an internationally known musician who performs at many local venues\, and his wife Chrissi Barnett \, a bookkeeper and graphic artist\, opened Polecat Tavern almost two and ½ years ago on December 14th \, 2023\, just a day after Keith turned 65. “Most people think about retiring at age 65\, but I started a new business.” Keith says laughing. “It’s been great though\, I never knew there was so much talent in the area.” \n\n\n\nPolecat Tavern opens at 2pm daily\, and has live music up to 5 nights a week with Open Mics\, Acoustic Jams\, & Karaoke\, on Thursdays\, Fridays\, & Sundays. Solos\, Duos\, Trios\, and full bands play every Saturday night. The stage is always available whenever there’s nothing scheduled\, and lots of musicians will come in and jam or rehearse\, so you never know who you might catch playing when you come in. \n\n\n\n“We’ve expanded into the next suite in the center and now have pool tables and a board game & puzzle table. We also have casino video games at the bar with poker\, black jack and more. Since we are non-smoking\, it’s an comfortable alternative place to game without all that casino smoke and noise.” Keith says there’s also a Gaming Happy Hour from 4 to 8 every night with specials when certain gaming combos are hit. \n\n\n\nOur customers have referred to Polecat as the local ‘Cheers Bar” as well as a “Working Man’s” tavern. Many tell staff that this is their home away from home. It’s so comfortable\, welcoming and fun to come in and chat with staff and friends. Don’t forget the Happy Hour from 3-5pm daily\, where domestic beer and well beverages are only $3 each. \n\n\n\nThe Polecat Summer Concert Series begins at 7pm on June 6 th with The Gary Wheeler Band and runs through August 29 th every Saturday with Local Anthology closing out the series. Bring your camp chairs and picnic baskets (or order delivery) and purchase your beverages & snacks inside the tavern. Don’t forget the sunscreen! We can’t wait to see you there!
