Our speaker\, Mel Glover\, will discuss its history\, including pre-history and pre-colonialism\, its early settlement\, its agricultural and economic growth\, and its life today. He will talk about Ft Churchill\, the Newlands Project\, Nevada’s last lynching\, why Maine Street Fallon is spelled with an E\, and a little bit about Naval Air Station\, Fallon. He will also be discussing his tenure as the Director of the Churchill County Museum\, some of its accomplishments\, and where he would like for the museum to progress to in the near and middle future.Mel holds a master’s degree in public history from THE Wright State University in Dayton\, Ohio. He has been a museum professional for 12 years but a life-long museums geek. As a child\, his grandmother’s mantra was\, “A bad weather day is a good day to go to a museum\,” and there were lots of good ones around Boston. He was a Civil War reenactor throughout the 150th anniversary cycle of the Civil War\, taking great joy in stinky\, black-powder smoke; cooking over a campfire; and interacting with the spectators (or ‘taters as they called them).
