SUMMARY:Carson Valley Trails Association Spoker Ride Mountain Bike Event
DESCRIPTION:We’ll be doing it again this summer on the same ten miles of beautiful mountain bike trails at James Lee Park. More amazing prizes this year\, food and beer trucks\, and every registration gets you a year’s membership in the Carson Valley Trails Association! \n\n\n\nRegistration is open! https://www.bikesignup.com/…/CarsonValleyTrailsAssociat… \n\n\n\nSpoker Ride FAQ:What is CVTA?The Carson Valley Trails Association is a non profit volunteer-run organization that builds and maintains the 66 (give or take) miles of public non-motorized use trails in the Carson Valley. CVTA is supported largely by membership dues and donations. \n\n\n\nWhere will the event take place?James Lee Memorial Park is located in Indian Hills. The address is 3394 James Lee Park Road\, Carson City\, Nevada. Check-in will be located in the cul-de-sac past the restrooms. Parking is plentiful and free. For more information and a map of the park see https://visitcarsonvalley.org/business-directory/2153-2/ \n\n\n\nWhat time should I arrive?Check-in and walk-in registrations will begin at 9am. We will start the ride about 10am. Food and drink vendors will be set up by 11am. Winners will be announced around noon. The event will end about 1pm. \n\n\n\nHow difficult is the ride? The course is a ten mile loop consisting of mostly rolling hills on well groomed singletrack trail beginning and ending at James Lee Park in Indian Hills. There is one moderately steep climb early in the ride\, but it gets easier after that. A few hairpin turns\, some sandy spots\, and one small rocky area are the only technical challenges. There are beautiful views of the mountains and valleys along the way. The course will be open meaning you may pass other cyclists\, hikers\, dog walkers\, and maybe even equestrian users on the trail. Please remember to Slow and Say Hello https://carsonvalleytrails.org/?page_id=34749 as you pass these other users so everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience on the trail. \n\n\n\nWill there be help along the way?In addition to resources at the start/finish\, you will pass three aid stations on the Spoker Ride route. They will offer at minimum shade\, water\, water bottles\, electrolyte packets\, bike pumps\, and first aid supplies. They will also be punching your scorecard so be sure to stop at each one! \n\n\n\nIs this a race?No\, this is not a race. We will not be timing you and there are no prizes for finishing fast. Prizes will be awarded for poker hands. We encourage participants to take their time on the trail\, enjoy the ride\, the views\, and to Slow and Say Hello to fellow trail users. https://carsonvalleytrails.org/?page_id=34749 \n\n\n\nWhat if I don’t know how to play poker? That’s okay! You draw a card at each of five stations and get a hole punched on your score card. At the end we will judge the winning hands according to WSoP rules. \n\n\n\nWhat kind of prizes do the winners get?We will have some amazing prize packages consisting of cash\, merchandise and gift certificates from local sponsors. \n\n\n\nWhat will be there to eat and drink?Water and electrolyte packets will be available to participants and spectators. We will have food vending by Kombi Bites and Sips and beverages by Double Barrel Draft Wagon. See their menus below:https://www.facebook.com/Kombibitesandsipshttps://www.facebook.com/doublebarreldraftwagon \n\n\n\nCan you take cash or credit? We hope to be able to take credit\, but wireless payments are dependent upon cell signal. Cash is a safer bet. Same goes for the food and beverage vendors.

SUMMARY:Paintings from the 1970’s on the Comstock - JoAnne Johnson Beck
DESCRIPTION:When: May – JulyReception: May 9\, 4-6 pmSaturday afternoons 2-4 pm during library hoursWhere: Silver City Schoolhouse\, 385 High Street\, Silver City\, NV \n\n\n\nThe Silver City Preservation Society is pleased to present a show of paintings by JoAnne Johnson Beck. The work was created in the early 1970s when Beck lived in Gold Hill and contributed artwork to the Gold Hill News. The work is whimsical and features characters\, and landscapes from the Comstock. They appear to be a combination of ink\, pencil and watercolor. They reflect the cultural and artistic freedom many people describe from their time in the 1960s and 70s on the Comstock.Jo Anne was born in Olympia Washington but spent her childhood first in the Mojave Desert and then in Sacramento where she attended Catholic school. Once she was old enough\, she moved around a lot and enjoyed many adventures. She lived on Vancouver Island\, in Gold Hill\, Nevada and Oakland and San Franciso where she an art degree at California College of the Arts. She worked in graphic design and in theater on costumes during her time in the Bay Area. Later she moved to Switzerland and then France. She lives in Montpellier where she is still a painter. The Silver City Schoolhouse is a historic one-room schoolhouse. It functioned as a school from 1868-1958. It opened during the Gold Rush when several thousand people lived in Silver City. After it closed in 1958 it became the firehouse and community center. The building burned in 2004 and was rebuilt over the next several years\, using as much original material as could be salvaged from the fire. The Silver City Volunteer Fire Department got their own firehouse building and today the Schoolhouse functions once again as a community center\, next to the beautiful Silver City Park. The building is used for community meetings\, town events\, parties\, art shows\, classes\, community art projects\, coffee houses\, lectures\, book readings and signings and much more. It also boasts a small but beautiful library. The Silver City Preservation Society (SCPS)\, a 501c3 nonprofit was recently formed to manage the Schoolhouse building and develop community programs and art and culture programming. Proceeds from the bar and bake sale benefit the SCPS.Silver City Arts is a committee of local residents who help produce arts and culture programming in Silver City. Silver City Arts volunteers graciously help with set up\, clean up\, run the bar and door and contribute magnificent baked goods. We could not do the series without them and are deeply grateful for their support.
