Renowned vocalist Nicolas Bearde joins the 17-piece Orchestra to honor Jarreau’s legendary sound and style.  \n\n\n\n“Perfect for a Mother’s Day outing\, An Afternoon of Romance blends live jazz\, nostalgia\, and heartfelt celebration in an intimate concert experience\,” said Dr. Greg Johnson\, Music Director for the Reno Jazz Orchestra. “Whether you’re searching for a unique Mother’s Day event\, a live jazz performance\, or a tribute to one of music’s great innovators\, this performance promises an afternoon of elegance\, rhythm\, and unforgettable music that everyone will enjoy.” \n\n\n\nKnown for his smooth vocals and dynamic stage presence\, Bearde will bring fresh energy to beloved classics while staying true to the spirit of the original recordings. With a style compared to Lou Rawls\, Nat King Cole\, and Bill Withers\, he is celebrated for his velvet voice\, wit\, and engaging live performances. \n\n\n\nBearde has several special projects that accentuate his passion and appreciation for Jazz; among them are Jarreau and Beyond\, A Salute to Lou-The Music of Lou Rawls\, I Remember You-The Music of Nat King Cole and The Timeless Tunes of Burt Bacharach. \n\n\n\nHe has headlined venues across the U.S. and internationally. Last year\, Bearde performed with the Orchestra in “The Legends of Jazz\,” a journey through jazz’s New Orleans roots. \n\n\n\nSince 1997\, the Reno Jazz Orchestra has carried forward a legacy established by world-class musicians who performed with legends like Frank Sinatra\, Elvis Presley\, and Luciano Pavarotti. Today\, that tradition continues through top performers connected to the University of Nevada\, Reno\, and throughout the West.  \n\n\n\nFor almost 30 years\, the Orchestra has and continues to create Big Band experiences\, from jazz classics to famous tunes from the Great American Songbook and innovative contemporary compositions. Each season\, popular guest artists join their performances that inspire\, celebrate and fuel the future of the magic of jazz. \n\n\n\nThe concert starts at 4:00 pm. SUMMARY:Art with Dana Childs - Channeling Georgia - Watercolor Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Register here: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/breweryartscenter/2141203 \n\n\n\nStep into the intimate\, magnified world of Georgia O’Keeffe\, where flowers become vast landscapes of color\, form\, and quiet mystery. In this immersive watercolor workshop\, we channel the iconic American modernist by recreating one of her celebrated iris visions—focusing on the luminous purples\, velvety depths\, and elegant ruffles of an iris bloom (inspired by works like Light of Iris (1924) and her ethereal purple-toned irises). O’Keeffe once said she painted flowers large “so that people would take time to look at them.” Through guided instruction\, you’ll do just that: slow down\, observe deeply\, and translate the flower’s lovely curves and subtle shifts in light into translucent watercolor layers. Dana Childs seeks to inspire painters as well as inform and encourage them. She works to gently encourage them\, while offering constructive suggestions based upon solid technique and artistic concepts. Childs loose and interpretive style is infectious and will spark the artist within you. She has developed a strong sense for reading her students after 28+ years of teaching watercolor painting and other forms of media. You can learn more and view her art at www.dlauren.org.  \n\n\n\nBrewery Arts Center – South Building – Painting Studio449 W King StCarson City\, NV

This playful screening celebrates a time when sci-fi was equal parts imagination\, spectacle\, and pure\, unfiltered fun\, inviting audiences to embrace the absurd as we explore the cosmos. \n\n\n\nWe’ll begin with A Trip to Mars (1910)\, an early silent fantasy that captures humanity’s first cinematic flirtations with extraterrestrial worlds\, complete with whimsical effects and wide-eyed wonder. SUMMARY:Sow and Grow Festival | Truckee River Regional Park
DESCRIPTION:Slow Food Lake Tahoe (SFLT) is hosting their second annual Sow and Grow Festival this May 30th from 9:00am to 1:00pm at their Food Bank and Community Gardens in the heart of Truckee River Regional Park. This free community event is a celebration of spring gardening in the High Sierra for seasoned and novice gardeners alike. Stop by and purchase some plant seedlings from a wide selection of SFLT’s favorite tried and true garden varieties for the High Sierra. There will be free gardening classes throughout the morning\, led by local gardeners with years of experience growing in Truckee’s harsh conditions. Bring the whole family to enjoy the gardens and stick around for a seed giveaway and kids activities!  \n\n\n\nThe Sow and Grow festival is a must-attend event for anyone interested in edible gardening or simply looking for a fun and educational day out. Bring the whole family and be inspired to create your own sustainable garden in our high elevation community. View more details and reserve your high elevation edible garden seedlings: https://www.slowfoodlaketahoe.org/events \n\n\n\nThis event would not be possible without our sponsors at the Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation and through the Truckee Tahoe Airport District (TTAD) Agency Partnership. 2025 marked our very first growing season with solar panels in the garden\, made possible by this partnership with TTAD. The addition of solar power helps us grow plant starts right in our own backyard and makes hosting more events in our community garden possible! We’re incredibly grateful for the support that helped make this project a reality. Huge thank you to TTAD for investing in our garden\, our community\, and a more sustainable future.

SUMMARY:Carson City to Kick Off Nevada Pride with Queer Film Night at Brewery Arts Center
DESCRIPTION:Carson City\, NV — Nevada Pride celebrations will begin a little early this year in Carson City with a special community movie night designed to bring people together through laughter\, nostalgia\, and queer storytelling. \n\n\n\nOn Friday\, June 12\, Brewery Arts Center will host Nevada Pride Movie Night\, featuring a screening of the 1999 cult-favorite romantic comedy “Trick.” The film follows two young men navigating an unexpectedly complicated night in New York City as they search for a place to be alone\, delivering a mix of humor\, heart\, and relatable moments that have made it a beloved staple of queer cinema. \n\n\n\nDoors for the event will open at 7:00 p.m.\, with the film beginning at 7:30 p.m. Organizers say the evening is intended to serve as an accessible and welcoming entry point into Pride weekend festivities\, particularly for those seeking a relaxed\, community-centered experience. \n\n\n\nThis is about creating a space where people can come together\, laugh\, connect\, and celebrate queer stories. It felt important to start Pride with something that highlights joy and shared experience. \n\n\n\nFollowing the screening\, attendees are invited to continue the celebration at an after party\, extending the evening’s focus on connection and community. \n\n\n\nHeld in the heart of Carson City\, the event reflects a growing effort to expand Pride programming beyond larger metropolitan areas and into neighboring communities\, offering opportunities for residents and visitors alike to participate in meaningful and inclusive celebrations. \n\n\n\nNevada Pride Movie Night is open to the public and aims to set the tone for a weekend of festivities by honoring queer culture through film—one story\, one night\, and one shared experience at a time.

SUMMARY:Guided Tours of the Historic Sutro Tunnel & Site
DESCRIPTION:Witness History in the Re-Making For Yourself At the Sutro Tunnel & Historic Site in Dayton\, NV \n\n\n\nVisit the historic Sutro Tunnel site and see our progress! We are revitalizing and restoring the site and Tunnel daily. Join one of our guided history tours and see history in the making. Guided History Tours are offered twice a month starting at 10:00am (April – June\, Sept-Oct) and starting at 9:00am in July & August. Tours last approximately 1.5 to 2.5 hours.  \n\n\n\nGuided tours are led by experienced historic docents that include Pat Neylan (co-curator/docent at St. Mary’s in the Mountain’s Museum in Virginia City and local historian)\, Lee Brunnell (of the Donovan Mill in Silver City\, CA)\, Dan Webster (author of Mills Along the Carson River) and/or Chris Pattison (Friends of Sutro Tunnel Charity). \n\n\n\nLearn the history of Adolph Sutro and how this famous tunnel came to be. \n\n\n\nView historic machinery that has stood the test of time\, an electric mule ore cart\, the site’s historic buildings\, our private lake that is fed from water that still runs from the tunnel\, the original foundation of Adolph’s mansion\, our museum\, and of course\, the iconic Sutro Tunnel Portal and entry inside the Sutro Tunnel itself–which has how been restored to a distance of 315+ feet\, based on Adolph Sutro’s original design! \n\n\n\nHistoric places like this are fading to time and being pillaged. Thankfully\, this historically significant 28-acre site has been donated to our 501(c)(3) non-profit organization\, the Friends of Sutro Tunnel Charity. \n\n\n\nRestoration of the Sutro Tunnel & the site’s 11 historic buildings is made possible through the sale of tours tickets and generous donations by visitors like you. Thank you for supporting Friends of the Sutro Tunnel\, the community\, and Nevada’s history. \n\n\n\nGet your tickets at: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/friendsofsutrotunnel
