SUMMARY:Exhibit Opening - Layers of Re-iteration: The Long Conversation
DESCRIPTION:Layers of Re-iteration: The Long Conversation is the second chapter of an evolving exhibition inspired by the enduring legacy of Galen Brown and Jim McCormick. Moving beyond tribute\, it follows the quiet passage of ideas across our community\, revealing how artistic lives continue through shared conversations\, generous mentorship\, and the countless creative exchanges that ripple outward long after the maker has left the room. \n\n\n\nAt the heart of that legacy was the Printmakers’ Conspiracy\, a loosely organized collective founded by Candace Garlock\, Jim McCormick and Nolan Preece that brought artists together through exhibitions\, collaboration\, and an unwavering commitment to one another’s practices. More than a printmaking group\, it became a creative ecosystem where friendships were forged\, ideas were tested\, and artistic voices found encouragement. The Long Conversation extends that spirit\, celebrating not only the work of two remarkable artists but the living community they helped create\, one that continues to inspire new generations of makers. \n\n\n\nAn artists’ reception will be held on September 24\, 5:30-7:30 p.m. The public is invited to meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments. The exhibit is available for view until December 16. The gallery is free and open to the public\, Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Located in the Bristlecone Building on the Carson City Campus\, 2201 West College Parkway\, Carson City.

SUMMARY:V&T Railway’s Twain Train Returns for Fourth Year During Mark Twain Days Festival on October 16
DESCRIPTION:The V&T Railway’s Twain Train returns Friday\, October 16\, for its fourth year as part of the annual Mark Twain Days Festival. The special evening excursion takes guests through the Carson River Canyon aboard a historic train\, with live music\, storytelling\, and entertainment inspired by the celebrated author. \n\n\n\nDeparting from Eastgate Depot at 4:00 p.m.\, the Twain Train takes guests on an approximately 50-minute round-trip journey through three miles of Carson River Canyon scenery. Along the way\, musicians and storytellers will move through the railcars\, performing pieces inspired by Mark Twain’s wit and adventures. \n\n\n\nGeneral Coach tickets are $70 per person and include open seating in the historic coaches\, round-trip passage\, live entertainment\, light snacks\, a handcrafted elixir\, and a commemorative Twain Days glass. \n\n\n\nFor a more private experience\, the VIP Table Experience is $325 for four guests and includes a private table\, curated snacks\, and a handcrafted elixir served in a commemorative Twain Train glass. Guests will also enjoy live performances from musicians\, poets\, and storytellers. \n\n\n\nSeats are limited\, and this event is expected to sell out quickly. \n\n\n\nTickets are available now at https://vtrailway.com/mark-twain-days-twain-train/ \n\n\n\nThe Twain Train is part of the fourth annual Mark Twain Days Literary Festival\, taking place October 13–17\, 2026. Presented by the Brewery Arts Center and Visit Carson City\, the festival celebrates Mark Twain’s life\, writing\, and connections to the American West through literary events\, live music\, art\, historic tours\, and community activities across Carson City and Virginia City. \n\n\n\nAbout the V&T Railway Commission \n\n\n\nForged in the heat of Nevada’s silver boom\, the Virginia & Truckee Railroad Co. began operations in 1869 as the link between the Comstock Lode mines and the outside world. Known as the “Queen of the Short Lines\,” these trains carried ore\, freight\, and passengers — everything a growing frontier town needed. When the last original train rolled in 1950\, these rails could have fallen silent forever. But they didn’t. Thanks to decades of tireless work by train enthusiasts\, state agencies\, historians\, and community members\, V&T Railway was brought back to life piece by piece. Locomotives were restored\, track was rebuilt\, and history was preserved in the hopes coming generations would continue to create stories that stood the test of time.

SUMMARY:Building Hope: New Food Hub Facility will serve Lyon County Region
DESCRIPTION:Exciting things are happening for food security in Lyon County communities. \n\n\n\nA new 4000 square foot building on Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties (HCC) Dayton campus will be complete this fall. The structure will serve as both a larger Dayton Food Pantry\, and a regional food hub\, serving not only Dayton but communities throughout Lyon County.  \n\n\n\nSimply put\, the expansion means more food to people facing hunger. \n\n\n\nThe community is invited to attend the grand opening\, and donate food\, during a Pantry Palooza and Fill the Pantry event on Friday\, October 16 from 4pm-7pm at 209 Dayton Valley Road\, Dayton\, Nevada 89403. \n\n\n\nThe celebration includes dishes prepared by well-known Reno chef Jonathan Chapin\, who is donating his time for the event. Dayton High Culinary students have designed a special cake for the affair\, and volunteer Lolita Lynn is providing lumpia and other treats. The Dayton Chamber of Commerce will be part of the ribbon cutting ceremony\, and opening remarks will be given by HCC Board President Chad Pace\, and HCC Executive Director Wendy Madson. Nevada poet laureate Shaun Griffin\, who is also a long time board member with Healthy Communities\, will read a poem to mark the occasion. \n\n\n\nHCC Director Wendy Madson noted that the new facility is “more than just a building\, it represents an investment in people—and a commitment to hope\, help\, and compassion. It will help build hope\, strengthen our community\, and create a welcoming space for connections. Every contribution and every act of kindness has played a part in helping make this dream come true. During the grand opening on October 16th\, we will acknowledge the generosity of our donors\, the dedication of countless volunteers\, our community partners\, and the many hands and hearts that helped bring this vision to life.” \n\n\n\nThe new facility will provide additional space to serve more people\, expand outreach\, increase resources\, and meet the growing needs of the Lyon County community.  \n\n\n\nAt HCC’s food pantries in Yerington\, Silver Springs and Dayton\, the need for food assistance has risen steadily. \n\n\n\nHCC’s Deputy Director\, Noel Chounet\, explained that “this expansion will serve not just Dayton\, but also our Silver Stage and Yerington Pantries by providing space for purchasing and receiving bulk quantities and distributing to the other pantries. The primary goal of this project is to increase our overall capacity for supporting Lyon County residents needing food supports across the county.” \n\n\n\nThe expansion was made possible through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021. When the Nevada Department of Agriculture\, Division of Food and Nutrition received ARPA funds\, HCC applied for and was awarded funding to create a regional food hub facility. The process involved enclosing and expanding an existing large pavilion at HCC’s Dayton campus. NDA funding also provided four insulated sheds for additional food storage\, and a paved parking area next to the new building.  \n\n\n\nThe new structure includes walk-in freezers and refrigerators\, expanded food storage and shelving\, and larger client-choice shopping areas. The large building also has a private office space\, and more room for outreach by community partners such as SNAP\, Veterans Affairs\, WIC\, and Medicare. \n\n\n\nFor more about Healthy Communities Coalition\, visit healthycomm.org.

SUMMARY:Group Grief Therapy | Wiley’s Wellness Sanctuary
DESCRIPTION:At Wiley’s Wellness Sanctuary\, grief counseling is offered as a compassionate\, deeply personalized space for those navigating the profound shifts that loss brings. Grief changes us—it asks us to reorient our identity\, our purpose\, and our relationship with the world around us. These sessions gently guide clients through that landscape with presence\, understanding\, and practical tools that support emotional processing\, nervous system regulation\, and meaning reconstruction after loss. \n\n\n\nThe Sanctuary itself was born from grief\, and this work is approached with both professional training and lived understanding. Through heart-centered conversation\, guided reflection\, somatic practices\, and supportive energetic modalities when appropriate\, clients are given space to express the raw truth of their experience while slowly reconnecting with their own inner strength and direction. Grief is not something to “fix\,” but something to move through with care\, compassion\, and support. \n\n\n\nThe intention of these sessions is not to erase the love that remains\, but to help individuals carry it forward—rebuilding a life that still holds meaning\, connection\, and light.
