DESCRIPTION:Carson Chamber Singers to Begin 41st Season \n\n\n\nWith New Director\, Jordan Gotchy \n\n\n\nRehearsals Start Tuesday\, August 12 \n\n\n\nCalling singers! The Carson Chamber Singers\, a performing group of the Carson City Symphony Association\, is beginning rehearsals for their 41st season on Tuesday\, August 12. Weekly rehearsals are from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.at the LDS Church\, 411 N. Saliman Road in Carson City. Carson Chamber Singers is open to singers high-school age and above. \n\n\n\nThe first concert of the season will be on Friday\, October 10\, at 7:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church\, in Carson City. This will be the Singers first concert with recently selected Director\, Jordan Gotchy\, following the retirement of Gary Schwartz. \n\n\n\nGotchy is a musician\, composer\, tenor\, and teacher in Reno\, NV\, and has been involved in choir since an early age. He earned his Master’s Degree in Music Composition from the University of Nevada\, Reno\, a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Berklee College of Music\, and completed an internship with Bella Voce\, northern Nevada’s premier treble voice chorus. Current choir and orchestra director at Spanish Springs High School\, Gotchy said\, “I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to the music culture of Carson City.”  \n\n\n\nFounded in 1985 as an affiliate of the Carson City Symphony Association\, the Carson Chamber Singers have performed at several venues in northern Nevada and in California. They have sung with the Reno Philharmonic and perform regularly with the Carson City Symphony. \n\n\n\nFor more information about Carson Chamber Singers\, registration\, and rehearsal schedule\, contact the Director at ccsingersnv@gmail.com. DESCRIPTION:Mile High Jazz Band Association presents Carson City’s 22nd annual Jazz & Beyond Music Festival\, with 10 days of free entertainment featuring more than 25 performances. The beat returns this August in multiple venues around the city\, beginning with the festival opener on Friday\, August 15\, from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. outdoors at the Governor’s Mansion\, on the corner of W. Robinson and Mountain Streets. It opens with Kantu Inka performing Andean music\, and next features the renowned big band\, the Reno Jazz Orchestra. Beverage bar and food truck will be on site; firearms are prohibited at the Governor’s Mansion. \n\n\n\nAn afternoon at the historic Silver Saddle Ranch (along the Carson River\, 2648 Carson River Road) will be on Sunday\, August 17\, from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Gates open at 2:00 p.m. Visitors can wear their boots and hats and enjoy the music of Doug Sandall and Dale Poune (the Double D’s); cowboy poetry by Nancy Harris McLelland\, Jo Foster\, and Larry Marinel; and the country band\, Sagebrush Rebels. Mule-drawn wagons will provide tours through the ranchland. Food\, beverages\, and Scoups ice cream treats will be available. Seating is limited\, bring chairs. This annual event is sponsored in part by the Carson City Parks\, Recreation & Open Space Department; Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch; Great Basin Consulting Group\, and the Music Performance Trust Fund (MPTF).  MPTF also helps underwrite 7 other performances during the festival. \n\n\n\nA festival favorite is the annual Basie’s Birthday concert by the Mile High Jazz Band.  This year the band will be joined by its regular vocalist\, Jakki Ford\, and guest vocalists Dale Head and Millie Bratsch.  The event is on Thursday\, August 21 – the 121st anniversary of the birth of the great band-leader William “Count” Basie – from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the McFadden Plaza stage. \n\n\n\nFor the first time\, Darrell and the Darrell-Licks bring their folk music\, stories\, and smiles to Jazz and Beyond. The Carson City Symphony\, conducted by David Bugli\, will begin rehearsals for its Forty-Second Season Opening Concert on Wednesday\, August 27\, from 6:20 to 8:30 p.m.\, at the Carson High School band/orchestra room\, 1111 N. Saliman Road in Carson City. \n\n\n\nThe concert includes music by Johannes Brahms\, Adrienne Albert\, and Leonard Bernstein\, and features guest trumpet soloist Jonathan Bhatia playing Alexander Arutiunian’s Trumpet Concerto with the orchestra. \n\n\n\nThe Symphony is a volunteer orchestra of about 55 players who perform music from the 15th to the 21st centuries. It is open to string players at any time without audition\, and to other instrumentalists when positions are available. Current openings are for strings\, clarinet\, bassoon\, and oboe. Musicians who are interested in joining should contact the Symphony at 775-883-4154 or email carsoncitysymphony@gmail.com. \n\n\n\nThe concert will be on Sunday\, October 26\, at 4:00 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center.
