SUMMARY:St. Mary’s Art Center Summer Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate the beautiful summer fine art exhibition by Catherine Sobredo. Catherine brings an exquisite collection of work spanning intaglio\, photography\, monotypes\, and polaroid transfers. Her work evolved from her study of Polaroid image and emulsion transfers\, including the impressionistic Polaroid SX-70 manipulations paving the way to her discovery of solar plate etchings. \n\n\n\nAn area fine art photographer previously from Santa Fe\, New Mexico\, her images\, Soulshapes\, invoke the inner landscapes of the soul – mystical\, ethereal\, contemplative\, transcendent. Surrounded by portals and the female form\, among her other subjects\, the exhibition radiates beauty and soul with an incredible eye for detail and composition. \n\n\n\nMeet Catherine this Saturday from 1-4pm and learn more about her fascinating processes. Wander all four floors and experience all that St. Mary’s Art Center has to offer\, including six galleries\, theatre\, library\, and lounge spaces.  \n\n\n\nAdmission is free with convenient on-site parking available. The Virginia City Shuttle will also make its rounds for those who wish to visit C Street or other historic properties in Virginia City and Gold Hill. \n\n\n\nSUMMER EXHIBITION: JULY 23\, 2025 – SEPTEMBER 21\, 2025 \n\n\n\nArtwork: “Dominant Triad”\, by Catherine Sobredo

SUMMARY:Celebrating a Legacy: Final Art Show & Sale of Patricia ‘Pat” Holub’s paintings and personal art collection
DESCRIPTION:The Nevada Artists Association is honored to announce a final art show and sale featuring the remarkable works of Patricia “Pat” Holub\, a beloved Carson City artist\, mentor\, and tireless advocate for the arts who passed away peacefully on April 8\, 2025\, at the age of 101. \n\n\n\nPat Holub\, a founding member of the Carson City Chapter of the Nevada Artists Association and Brewery Arts Center\, was a prolific plein air artist whose work in watercolor\, oils and mixed media captured the natural beauty and historical essence of Nevada over five decades. \n\n\n\nHer paintings of buildings and landscapes document scenes that have since disappeared or transformed\, earning her statewide recognition\, including the Nevada Artist of the Year Award in 2007 and the 2018 Woman of the Year for her contributions as a cultural benefactor. The annual “Pat Holub Award\,” presented by the Nevada Artists Association since 2016\, honors the years of service and dedication Pat gave to nurturing artistic talent. \n\n\n\nIn addition to Pat’s personal collection of paintings done by other renown Nevada artists\, this exhibition showcases a curated selection of Pat’s paintings\, reflecting her unique ability to blend vibrant landscapes with historical storytelling. \n\n\n\nEvent DetailsWhat: Final Art Show and Sale of Pat Holub’s Paintings and Personal Art CollectionWhen: July 22-27\, 2025\, 12:00-4pm each dayWhere: Nevada Artists Association\, 449 W. SUMMARY:Capital City Art’s Initiative’s “WILD” Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:From polar ice fields to the new and old world tropics\, Heather Nicole and Andrew C. Strom have photographed a range of wildlife in their natural settings.  \n\n\n\nThe Capital City Arts Initiative’s exhibition\, Wild\, presents work by Nicole and Strom at the Courthouse Gallery from February 4 – June 10\, 2025. CCAI will host a reception for the artists on Wednesday\, February 12\, 5:00 – 6:30p.m. with the artists’ introductions at 5:30. The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street\, Carson City; the gallery is open Monday – Friday\, 8:00a.m. – 5:00p.m.  \n\n\n\nNicole and Strom provided this description of their photographic mission: “Wildlife is an essential and under-appreciated part of the world we live in. It is also something that is heavily\, and often unknowingly\, impacted by our own actions. By capturing close\, intimate pictures of nature and wild animals we hope to demonstrate that these fellow inhabitants of the planet are worth our attention and deserve our respect. When you take the time to look closely\, you will find that all animals have personality\, mood\, and emotion. Humans and wildlife are more similar and more connected than we may realize. Through photography we show nature in a way that may be previously unseen. In this ever-changing world\, there is an urgency to tell the stories of the voiceless. Success to us would be to raise awareness of how our actions impact our world. We hope to help people grow closer to the wild\, develop a connection to the wild\, and ultimately\, respect the wild.” \n\n\n\nAndrew Strom travels to find his subjects in their native environment while upholding the most stringent standards with regard to ethical and responsible practices when documenting wildlife. When weather and travel is limited he also focuses on both macro photography as well as creating digital art based on the wildlife subjects he has captured.  \n\n\n\nStrom is an award winning photographer based in Northern Nevada. He grew up in the Reno area and after serving six years in the Army National Guard he became a public servant\, currently working for the City of Reno. Andrew took up photography during the pandemic of 2020 after meeting his now wife and fellow photographer\, Heather Nicole. In the few years since\, he has earned acknowledgement for his work photographing moments in wildlife that capture the mood\, personality\, and soul of his many subjects. He has achieved a number of awards from organizations such as the National Wildlife Federation\, Birdwatching magazine\, Outdoor Photographer magazine and Nevada Artists Association. His work has been featured in galleries both locally and internationally. More of Strom’s work can be found on his website: AndrewCStromPhoto.com \n\n\n\nAs a child\, Heather Nicole enjoyed using Polaroid\, disposable\, and eventually professional cameras to capture anything and everything. As she grew older\, she became more artistic with photography and began looking at things with more intent. Over time\, the intent of her photography evolved to focus on wildlife and conservation; two things she is incredibly passionate about. For her entire life\, Heather has felt a deep connection to wildlife and nature. Naturally\, her lens has always been focused on the wild things. She enjoys using photography to capture beautiful moments in time which would otherwise only be held as a fading memory. More-so\, she enjoys using photography to show a different perspective of a familiar scene or animal. She strictly abides by the utmost respectful and ethical practices when photographing wildlife. Heather grew up in a small town on Florida’s Gulf Coast. She moved to northern Nevada in late 2019 and shortly thereafter\, the pandemic forced her plans to change. This change led her to meet her now husband and fellow photographer\, Andrew C. Strom. \n\n\n\nNicole is an award winning and published photographer. She has won nearly two dozen photography awards from organizations such as The Nature Conservancy\, Outdoor Photographer magazine\, Wild Heart Gallery\, and Nevada Artists Association. Her images and stories have been published by Outdoor Photographer magazine three times and her digital work has been widely published. When not traveling or photographing wildlife\, Nicole works for the City of Reno. To see more of Nicole’s work\, visit: MomentsByHeatherNicole.com \n\n\n\nChris Lanier wrote the exhibition essay which is available as a gallery hand-out and archived at ccianv.org. Lanier is an artist and critic who generally likes to mix things up – words and pictures\, video and performance\, design\, and art. He’s had work shown and published in the U.S.\, Mexico\, England\, Japan\, France\, Canada\, and Serbia – and has written for The Believer\, HiLobrow\, Furtherfield\, Rhizome\, the San Francisco Chronicle\, and the Comics Journal. He was awarded a Nevada Arts Council Literary Arts Fellowship in 2024 and served as Reno City Artist for 2024. He is a Teaching Professor of Digital Art at the University of Nevada\, Reno at Lake Tahoe (formerly Sierra Nevada College). Read more at http://chrislanierart.wordpress.com \n\n\n\nApril Reyes\, a Western Nevada College Latino Leadership Academy student\, provided the Spanish translation of the show’s wall text. \n\n\n\nCCAI is an artist-centered not-for-profit organization committed to community engagement in contemporary visual arts through exhibitions\, illustrated talks\, arts education programs\, artist residencies\, and online activities. \n\n\n\nThe Initiative is funded by the John and Grace Nauman Foundation\, Nevada Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities\, Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts\, Carson City Cultural Commission\, Kaplan Family Charitable Fund\, Southwest Gas Corporation Foundation\, Steele & Associates LLC\, and CCAI sponsors and members. \n\n\n\nFor additional information\, please visit CCAI’s website at www.ccainv.org.

SUMMARY:Desert Whispers
DESCRIPTION:Capital City Arts Initiative is delighted to present work by Anne Hoff in the Desert Whispers exhibition. She captures a sense of surface and line from the landscape into her images. \n\n\n\nCCAI’s exhibit will be in Western Nevada College’s Bristlecone Gallery\, 2201 W College Parkway\, Carson City from December 18\, 2024 — April 9\, 2025. The gallery is open to the public\, Monday through Friday\, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. The artist’s reception will take place on Tuesday\, February 25\, 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. \n\n\n\nWithin the past several decades spent in Nevada and Arizona\, Hoff has been inspiredby the vast spaces of the West. Stunning vistas and isolated landscapes have dominated the visual language in her work. She uses the desert flora to accentuate the solitude.  \n\n\n\nHoff made the majority of her pieces using classic lithography printing techniques. “Stone lithographs are a traditional printmaking technique that involves drawing directly onto a stone with an oil-based crayon or ink. The artist will then use a series of chemical processes to fix the image to the stone\, and then wipe away the original drawing to leave a trace on the stone. The stone is then dampened and inked\, and the artist will apply pressure to transfer the ink to paper.”(from the internet). The exhibition presents several of the heavy stone blocks that Hoff used to create her images. \n\n\n\nHoff’s work includes installations murals\, sculptural prints\, hybrid prints\, and drawingson translucent film and cloth. She is a professor of Printmaking and Drawing at the College of Southern Nevada\, Las Vegas\, 2000 – present. She exhibits her work in local andinternational portfolios\, invitationals\, and educational conferences. Her work is in university printmaking collections throughout the United States. \n\n\n\nJosie Glassberg wrote the essay for the exhibition — available soon online and in the gallery. Glassberg is a freelance writer whose work has regularly appeared in Double Scoop Art News\, the Reno News & Review\, and Fibonacci magazine. She attended St. Olaf College for printmaking and enjoys writing about art in the West when she’s not busy with her main gig as a garden teacher. \n\n\n\nApril Reyes\, a Western Nevada College Latino Leadership Academy student\, provided a Spanish translation of the show’s wall text. \n\n\n\nWestern Nevada College is a component of the Nevada System of Higher Education\, with campuses in Carson City\, Douglas County\, and Fallon.
